13 things I'm going to do now that "Game of Thrones" is over and I have my life back

It’s safe to say that for the last seven weeks, my life has been dedicated to one thing, and one thing alone. That thing is Game of Thrones Season 7. All I’ve been doing since the middle of July is living and breathing Westeros, whether it watching and rewatching episodes, spending countless hours I’m never going to get back searching through Reddit, or making Jon Snow .gifs. It’s been a fun month and a half!

But now, alas, Game of Thrones is over for the season. I suddenly have my Sunday nights back, and that is so exciting for me. I also have a whole lot of other free time, because do you even KNOW how long it takes to make 9 perfect Jon Snow .gifs? Depending on how long I get lost in Jon Snow’s eyes, it can take a while.

Anyway. While I’ve been completely consumed with Game of Thrones for seven weeks, these last seven weeks also gave me plenty of time to keep a list of things I’m going to do now that I’m free of Westeros until [TBA?]. But no, really, none of us knows when Game of Thrones is coming back, so I guess I’ve got an undefined amount of free time ahead of me.

1. Find some new doctors.

I know you are reading this, mom, and I promise I’m going to find a primary care physician and a dentist over the next few weeks. PROMISE.

2. Go out to dinner with my friend Lindsay!

Lindsay just texted me! She asked if I wanted to grab dinner some time this week! Oh my gosh I haven’t seen Lindsay in so long, I hope we get to go this week!

3. Find a boyfriend.

Actually, on second thought, hard pass.

4. Go to Disneyland.

My Disneyland annual pass has been blocked out on Saturdays all summer, meaning that I could only go on Sunday. But it’s not like I can go to Disneyland on a Sunday, since I’d need to leave the park by like, 4 p.m. to make it back in time through LA traffic for 6 p.m. The struggle has been real.

5. Watch Veep.

I think it’s about time I binged Veep. It feels like time.

6. Rewatch Game of Thrones.

Don’t judge me.

7. Stop being terrified of my oven and learn how to use it.

Here’s the thing: I have no idea how to use my oven. Yes, I have used ovens in the past before, but the oven in my new apartment is a gas oven, and I’ve only ever been around electric ovens. Maybe this is one of those things were like, the oven can sense my fear, and every time I try and use it, I’ve set the fire alarms off for my apartment…and one time the building. The last thing I want to do at 5:30 p.m. on a Sunday is set the fire alarm off for the building, and suddenly I’m standing outside, out of a wifi zone, not watching Game of Thrones. And it’s my own damn fault.

8. Write a YA novel.

WHY NOT? I’ve got the time now.

9. Spend some time trying to figure out how I can get Younger and/or The Bold Type to give HG a shoutout.

Please tell me you are also obsessed with these TVLand and Freeform shows, respectively. They are constantly talking about other millennial-targeted publications out there on the internet, and what do I have to do to get Sutton Foster to say, “Entertainment Editor Rachel Paige” ???

10. Find another fandom to obsess over, via fan theories.

We’re only 104 days away from The Last Jedi, people. Those Rey parentage theories aren’t going to write themselves.

11. Think about relationships between non-related people.

Wow, do you realize just how much I’ve thought about incest over the last seven weeks? TOO MANY TIMES.

12. Focus more on saving money so I can afford to get a puppy.

Hopefully, my future dog will spend more time with me than Ghost does with Jon.

13. Sleep.

Covering Game of Thrones requites a lot of effort and work, and sometimes it’d be Sunday night and I’d be like, “I’ll just work a little bit longer…” and suddenly it’s 2:30 a.m. and I’m wide awake rewatching Dany call Jon “small.”
