Relationship rumors are an unfortunate part of dating in the public eye, but sometimes, they get a little out of hand.
Here are 13 times celeb couples shut down weird and wild rumors about their relationships:
1.THE RUMOR: Some internet users speculated that "professional witch" Dr. Kate Tomas "used magic to seduce" her partner Andrew Garfield because she teaches a seduction masterclass.
THE TRUTH: On her podcast The Friday Emails, Kate said she temporarily removed the seduction masterclass from her website because of "horrific accusations that were leveled at [her] that [she'd] used magic to seduce [her] partner."
She reportedly said, "[True seduction] is not about magic spells or manipulation. It has got nothing to do with how perfect their teeth are — thank you, Reddit— or whether they conform to conventional standards of beauty. People that are really attractive are full of charisma because they are authentically themselves and confidently anchored in that."
2.THE RUMOR: Amidst Shakira and Gerard Piqué's 2022 breakup, there was a viral rumor that Shakira allegedly discovered Gerard was cheating on her because she came home from a trip and discovered someone had been eating her strawberry jam, which she loved and he disliked and never ate.
THE TRUTH: In 2024, she told the Sunday Times the story was "not true."
3.THE RUMOR: In early 2024, Stephen Baldwin inadvertently fueled rumors that his daughter Hailey Bieber was having issues in her marriage with Justin Bieber by asking his Instagram followers to "take a moment to offer a little prayer for them." Some fans speculated that the couple "hated" each other or were headed for divorce.
THE TRUTH: A few months later, Hailey told W Magazine, "People have made me feel so bad about my relationship since day one. 'Oh, they're falling apart. They hate each other. They're getting divorced.' It's like people don't want to believe that we're happy."
"I used to try to act like it hurts less and less. I've tried to think that you get used to it at a certain point, that this is what's going to be said, and this is how people are going to be. But I realize that it doesn't actually ever hurt any less," she said.
4.THE RUMOR: 5 Seconds of Summer fans have speculated that Sierra Deaton, who's married to Luke Hemmings, also dated Ashton Irwin. They sometimes point to a 2018 interview where the boys played "Never Have I Ever" with YouTuber Foquinha as "evidence."
THE TRUTH: In 2020, Luke responded to a tweet about "the Ash and Thao rumors" [Sierra's full name is Sierra Phu?o?ng-Tha?o Deaton, and Luke calls her Thao], saying they were "untrue" and made everyone involved "uncomfortable."

5.THE RUMOR: In late 2021, DeuxMoi shared a blind item alleging that a "well-known NBA couple" have an open relationship. Many social media users speculated the post was talking about Ayesha Curry and Steph Curry.
THE TRUTH: In early 2022, a user left a since-deleted comment on Ayesha's Instagram picture of Steph, using the rumor to shame and criticize her. She replied, calling them out for showing "disrespect" to her marriage.
6.THE RUMOR: When Miley Cyrus released "Flowers" in 2023, a viral rumor claimed that the music video was filmed in the exact house where Liam Hemsworth allegedly brought the 14+ women he cheated on her with during their marriage.
THE TRUTH: In resurfaced tweets from 2019 (when Miley and Liam announced their separation), she denied any allegations of cheating.

7.THE RUMOR: In 2023, reports surfaced that Sheryl Lee Ralph and her husband, Senator Vincent Hughes, were moving in together for the first time in 18 years after she told the Philadelphia Inquirer that they don't live together while she's filming Abbot Elementary in LA because, as a Pennsylvania state senator, he has to stay in Philadelphia for work.
She told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "First of all, 20 years, keeping this marriage together, you have to be together sometime. Vincent is not able to leave the state the way I can leave the state. In fact, in 20 years of our being together, I’m going to say my husband has maybe been in California, maybe, 25 times. That means I’m in Philadelphia every two weeks. After 20 years, people still don’t know or realize that we’re married. That I live there part time. It’s always like, ‘What are you doing there?’ ‘Um, I’m married to Sen. Hughes. I live here.’”
THE TRUTH: A few months later, she told E! News, "It's not true at all. If you're going to write things, just try to get it close to right. We've been married 18 years and together 21 years."
She said, "We live together on and off, in that I'm shooting Abbott Elementary in LA. He is at the Capitol every week, so we see each other in between."
8.THE RUMOR: In late 2023, a supposed insider alleged to Page Six that Travis Kelce was planning to propose to Taylor Swift and claimed that "Scott [Swift, Taylor's dad] has been asked for his blessing and has wholeheartedly given it, and Travis has been talking to friends about a ring."
In early 2024, another supposed insider alleged to Page Six that Travis didn't propose over the holidays or plan to pop the question on Valentine's Day because "they don't want it to seem like it's rushed insanity."
The source claimed, "Taylor and Travis discussed it, and there is a plan. They will get engaged on their one-year anniversary in July."
At the time, another source denied these claims to Us Weekly.
THE TRUTH: During a pre-Super Bowl press conference, Travis shut down engagement speculation.
9.THE RUMOR: When Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston briefly dated in the summer of 2016, some fans speculated their relationship was a publicity stunt.
THE TRUTH: At the time, Tom told The Hollywood Reporter, "How best to put this? That notion is — look, the truth is that Taylor Swift and I are together, and we're very happy. Thanks for asking. That’s the truth. It’s not a publicity stunt."
10.THE RUMOR: In 2024, TikTok lip readers speculated that Emily Blunt and John Krasinski were discussing divorce in this CBS video from the Golden Globes red carpet.
THE TRUTH: At the time, an insider told Us Weekly, "There are no issues with Emily and John. They are absolutely not talking about divorce. They think the rumors are funny and ridiculous." Additionally, at the 2023 American Film Institute Awards, Emily and Selena Gomez — who was also subjected to a Golden Globes controversy — seemingly joked about the rumors, posing with their hands covering their mouths.
Selena shared the picture on her Instagram story with the caption, "We shall not speak lol."
11.THE RUMOR: Following Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady's divorce in 2022, rumors swirled that she allegedly cheated on her former husband with her current boyfriend, Joaquim Valente.

THE TRUTH: In 2023, Gisele told the New York Times, "That is a lie."
She said, "This is something that happens to a lot of women who get blamed when they have the courage to leave an unhealthy relationship and are labeled as being unfaithful. They have to deal with their communities. They have to deal with their family. Of course for me, it just happens to be a little bit amplified...No one really knows what happens between two people, only the two people in the relationship...This is the first time I am seeing someone that was a friend of mine first.
