14th annual International Puerto Rican Heritage Film Festival starts in NYC
NEW YORK (PIX11) — November is Puerto Rican Heritage Month.
One of the biggest events celebrating its community, culture, and the art of cinema is the 14th annual International Puerto Rican Heritage Film Festival.
The opening night of the International Puerto Rican Heritage Film Festival 2024 is at El Museo del Barrio. There will be 76 films showcased this year.
Isabel Arraiza Is excited to be one of the stars in a new movie called “Renata.” Arraiza plays a dancer who suffers a brain injury that paralyzes her and impacts her life and her marriage.
Arraiza is one of dozens of artists from the tri-state area showing their work at this year’s International Puerto Rican Heritage Film Festival. She says the power of Latinas is being celebrated this year.
76 filmmakers are presenting their work at the festival, 22 from the tri-state. This year there is a wide variety of films, shorts, animation, and panel discussions with industry leaders, taking part in the five-day event receiving the Lifetime Achievement award for living legend Iris Chacon.
The festival’s director, Xavier Santiago, says the theme for 2024 is moving forward together. Programs and films will be shown in several locations from East Harlem to the Lower East Side, bringing the community together from November 13-17.
