2 Chainz Takes It Back To The 2010s At 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards
They asked 2 Chainz what he does and who he does it for, and he gave the 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards audience his answer. The 47-year-old rapper took viewers and attendees on a trip back to the 2010s with his performance of five of his classic records.
The self-proclaimed Hair Weave Killer told fans his performance was dedicated to the club and he properly opened it with “Birthday Song” while dancers twerked around him. While they made their way to stripper poles on the stage, Tity Boi transitioned to his tributary track “I Luv Dem Strippers.” The women made good use of the poles, spinning around and dancing to their delight.
Next, the Atlanta rapper delivered another banger with “Watch Out” while the crowd chanted the anthemic “You getting mad? I’m getting rich!” He continued the wealthy theme with a rousing rendition of his Lil Wayne-assisted “Rich As F**k” before finishing up with “I’m Different.” Watch the nostalgic performance below.
This 2 Chainz performance was a fuller set for him, following his appearance earlier in the night to perform “Bandz A Make Her Dance” with Juicy J. It also came at an interesting time in his career; this week, the former Playa Circles member announced that he will not be re-signing with Def Jam and is independent, calling himself “the biggest free agent in the game.” He had been signed to the legendary label since 2012 when he released his platinum-certified debut album Based on a T.R.U. Story (B.O.A.T.S.).
In 2024, he has made his presence felt primarily through features: Denzel Curry’s “G’z Up,” Anella Herim’s “Boujee Lemons,” and Hunxho’s “Come Over.” In 2023, he linked up with Lil Wayne for their Collegrove follow-up Welcome 2 Collegrove which featured 21 Savage, Rick Ross, Benny The Butcher, Fabolous, and more.
Now with independence on the horizon, it will be interesting to see whether the “Big Amount” rapper signs elsewhere or commits to doing things on his own.
