2019's Force Friday will launch 'Star Wars' — and 'Frozen' — merchandise
Force Friday is coming back for thirds, and this time Olaf, Elsa and Anna are getting in on the action.
Disney has staked out Friday, Oct. 4, as the day it will unleash its wave of new Star Wars and Frozen products worldwide.
In the past, Disney and its merchandising minions have used Force Friday as the kickoff to Star Wars hysteria, serving the dual strategy of building hype for the latest Episode and launching holiday shopping sprees for 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens and 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi. With the Mouse House’s ridiculously stacked release schedule this year, the hugely anticipated finale to Star Wars‘ central Skywalker Saga (arriving Dec. 22) will share the lucrative season with the hugely anticipated Frozen 2 (out Nov. 22).
Technically, Oct. 4 is being billed as two separate events for the different fandoms. Triple Force Friday will include toys, games, books, apparel, collectibles, housewares and other merch based not only on Star Wars: Episode IX, but also on the upcoming live-action series The Mandalorian, which will be the vanguard of the Disney+ streaming service, whose launch date has yet to be announced. Aside from an assortment of action figures and ships from the likes of Hasbro and Lego, EA will release its latest video game, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
Arendelle aficionados, meanwhile, will be celebrating Frozen Fan Fest. As opposed to 2014, when the original Frozen became a full-fledged phenomenon but Disney and its merry band of merch makers were caught flat-footed and didn’t have enough product to feed the demand, 2019 will be fully stocked. Disney promises “product reveals, musical moments, in-store events and much more, introducing an unprecedented assortment of Frozen 2 product.” Disney will continuing staging Frozen-themed events through the season.
