2024 AAFCA TV Awards winners: ‘Masters of the Air,’ Ayo Edebiri, Wendell Pierce …
On Saturday, August 24, the African American Film Critics Association honored the winners for its sixth annual television awards. Among the list of champions were Emmy nominees “Masters of the Air,” Apple TV+’s limited series about a bomber group during World War II, and Ayo Edebiri, the female star of FX’s cooking dramedy “The Bear.” Wendell Pierce (“Elsbeth”) and Josiah Cross (“Masters of the Air”) were also recognized with trophies. This yearly event recognizes outstanding work within the television industry at large. Per the organization, “Honorees are selected by a special committee within the association charged with identifying exceptional content and performances in television that offer profound and refreshing representations of the world in which we live.”

The 2024 gala took place on Saturday afternoon at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles, CA. For all you awards buffs out there, that’s the exact same location as the very first Academy Awards ceremony in 1929. All of the TV winners and honorees were previously notified by the African American Film Critics Association.

This year’s special honorees were: Glynn Turman (Legacy Award), Michelle Buteau (Trailblazing Award), Nkechi Okoro Carroll (Salute To Excellence Award), Starz’ “Power” Universe (Impact Award) and Tubi (Ally Award).
