2024 Emmy Awards Cast Reunions: Schitt's Creek, Happy Days, More
Who doesn’t love award show season? It’s full of your favorite stars, movies and series getting recognized for their hard work and bringing home accolades that we all know they are deserving of. But what about the bonus of cast reunions from your favorite shows — yes, we get that too!
From Schitt’s Creek to Grey’s Anatomy, these were all the exciting nostalgic reunions we saw on our screens during the 76th primetime Emmy Awards!
Which casts reunited at the 2024 Emmys?
First and foremost, we saw father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy – who were hosting the awards – reunite with the rest of their Schitt’s Creek family. Catherine O’Hara, who portrayed Moira Rose, and Annie Murphy, who portrayed Alexis Rose, joined the hosts on stage.
As Murphy walked onto the stage, Dan said, “Oh my gosh. It's my TV sister, Annie Murphy. What's up, Annie?”
Murphy responded in the most Alexis Rose way, saying, “Well, they said the shining star of Schitt's Creek was gonna present the final award of the night, so…”
The night also saw a Happy Days reunion between Ron Howard and Henry Winkler. The two stars, who portrayed Richie Cunningham and Fonzie respectively, took the stage on a recreated set of the show’s famed Arnold’s Drive-In. Winkler pulled an old Fonzie move on stage by punching the jukebox, which immediately started playing “Happy Days.”
We also saw a reunion of The West Wing cast, including Allison Janney, Martin Sheen, Dulé Hill, Janel Moloney, Richard Schiff and Jimmy Smits. Janney started the spiel for the cast with, “It's hard to believe that just 25 years ago, Aaron [Sorkin] and the writers actually had to use their imaginations to create interesting plot lines for The West Wing. Unlike today where storylines can be plucked right off the news.”
Which iconic casts have reunited in the past at the Los Angeles award show?
The 2024 Emmys wasn’t the first time some of your favorite casts reunited. Back at the 2023 Emmy Awards, which took place in January 2024 due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes, fans saw multiple of their favorite stars come together again.
Members of the Grey’s Anatomy cast, including Ellen Pompeo, Justin Chambers, Katherine Heigl, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens, took the Emmys stage in 2023. The reunion included Heigl and Chambers, who left the series in 2010 and 2020, respectively, and thoroughly excited fans of the medical drama.
“You stayed with us through plane crashes, superstorms, earthquakes and a global pandemic,” Wilson started. Heigl added, “There have been some changes over the years. But the one thing that has remained a constant is the incredible fanbase.”
The 2023 Emmys also saw a reunion of the cast of Cheers, which included Ted Danson, Rhea Perlman, Kelsey Grammer, John Ratzenberger and George Wendt, on a re-created set of the Cheers bar.
Ratzenberger explained, “Think of it as a long-overdue class reunion,” while Grammer added, “Being together brings back some great memories from [a] show we’re all very proud of.”
There were also reunions of the cast of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia with Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney, Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito, as well as the Martin cast with Tisha Campbell, Martin Lawrence, Tichina Arnold and Carl Anthony Payne II.
While the Emmys are the perfect place to watch your favorite stars and TV series win deserving accolades for their work, we also love the awards show for some of our favorite nostalgic cast reunions.
