However, Joshua discovers that the AI creator has developed a powerful new weapon in the form of a young child. 'Poor Things'
"Poor Things" stars Emma Stone as Bella Baxter, a formerly pregnant woman who jumps to her death, only to be resurrected by God (Willem Dafoe). She stays with her mad scientist father figure until one day, a mischievous lawyer Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), takes her to Lisbon to keep her away from her fiancée Max (Ramy Youssef).
This journey of self-discovery is mostly a tale of sexual awakening and loss of na?vety with just a hint of Frankenstein's monster. It's also brilliant, and one of the big winners from this year's Oscars. Stone's Best Actress-winning performance is worth watching on its own, but the rest of the movie is equally enthralling. - MM

'Summer of Soul'
It's the revolution that was not televised. "Summer of Soul," Questlove's directorial debut, takes place in 1969 during the Harlem Cultural Festival — which was overshadowed by that year's other music event, Woodstock. This documentary weaves together 40 hours of never-before-seen live footage of performers including Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, B.B. King, Ray Barretto, Nina Simone and Sly & The Family Stone.
The Harlem Cultural Festival was an electric, thrilling moment, one born of grief (Martin Luther King Jr. was shot the year before) and a celebration of the diversity, artistry and beauty of Black culture. This festival is long overdue to get even a smidgen of recognition that the other one received, but at least now we can enjoy a Summer of Soul.
