21 Celeb Couples Who Broke Up and Reunited — and Whether They're Still Together

For some of these star duos, the second time was a charm; for others, it was only a matter of time before they split again

Is love sweeter the second time around? Just ask these celebrity couples who split: Absence really did make the heart grow fonder, and they decided to give love a second chance.

For some, including Sylvester Stallone and Jennifer Flavin, Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor and Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade, their break-ups brought them back closer than ever and made their relationships that much stronger.

For others, like Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez (who filed for divorce in August 2024 after two years of marriage), their initial issues couldn't be overcome.

Below, check out these celebrity couples who broke up and got back together again — then see their current status.

Jennifer Lopez & Ben Affleck

After a majorly public two-year romance, the pair called off their engagement in early 2004. Fast forward 17 years, and Lopez and Affleck were back on.

Rumors of Lopez and Affleck's relationship first ignited in late April 2021 when they were spotted outside her L.A. home following her split from Alex Rodriguez. By April of 2022, they were once again engaged and in the summer of 2022, they wed (twice!).

After months dodging rumors of a split, Lopez filed for divorce on August 20, 2024 after two years of marriage.

Cardi B and Offset

Cardi B and Offset have been on-again, off-again for the duration of their relationship. The couple who first met in 2017 secretly wed in September of that year, before welcoming their daughter in July 2018.

However, it seems their newlywed bliss was shortlived as the Bronx native announced that she and the Migos rapper had split in December 2018. They ultimately recovered and were reconciled in 2019.

Cardi later filed for divorce in September 2020 after reportedly finding out Offset had been unfaithful. The two seemed to work through their issues as she called off the divorce in November that year.

In December 2023, the "Bodak Yellow" rapper announced she and Offset had once again split, but didn't file for divorce until July 2024.

Sylvester Stallone & Jennifer Flavin

The longtime loves experienced a bit of a roller coaster in the summer of 2022, announcing plans to divorce in late August. In a statement to PEOPLE after Flavin filed, Stallone said, "I love my family. We are amicably and privately addressing these personal issues."

Just a month later, though, the parents to three adult daughters, had reconciled.

"They decided to meet back up at home, where they talked and were able to work out their differences. They are both extremely happy," the actor's rep told Page Six.

Christine Taylor & Ben Stiller

After announcing their split in 2017, the longtime couple had some happy news: They'd gotten back together.

Their romantic relationship was rekindled after Stiller and Taylor decided it would be best if he moved back in with her and their two kids during the early days of the pandemic, as it would be the only way he'd be able to see the kids during the lockdown.

"Then, over the course of time, it evolved," he told Esquire. "We were separated and got back together and we're happy about that."

"It's been really wonderful for all of us. Unexpected, and one of the things that came out of the pandemic," he added.

Taylor told Drew Barrymore that their time apart helped them get "to know who we are" and be better suited for each other.

Winnie Harlow & Kyle Kuzma

Though they were reported to have split in August 2021, the model and the NBA pro appeared to be back together just a few months later — and recent social media posts confirm they are definitely back on!

The pair first connected in May 2020 after the Washington Wizards forward reached out to Harlow on Instagram, according to Page Six. After their split, they were first spotted holding hands en route to a dinner date in New York City in late December 2021, in photos obtained by TMZ.

In 2022, Harlow confirmed that Kuzma was once again her Valentine this year, sharing snaps of her romantic celebration with her on-again beau on Instagram and calling him "my Cupid," and the two have posted plenty of loved-up snapshots since.

Jill Martin & Erik Brooks

Today's Martin and financier Brooks got engaged in 2019 but split the following year, when long distance and the COVID-19 pandemic took "a toll" on them, Martin told PEOPLE.

Fast forward to November 2021, when Martin announced the two had reconnected — and gotten re-engaged. They married in September 2022.

"I used to say, 'It literally takes my breath away to picture my life without him.' But our relationship couldn't stay the way it was. We needed a pause. A long pause. And we took it," she wrote on Today.com. "We began to learn about each other again. We wanted to make sure this time would be different. Better."

And it is. "It took me 45 years to find my fairy tale. When I realized I was confident on my own, that's when I knew Erik and I were ready to get back together," she continued. "The realistic version of my fairy tale was ready to be written."

Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus

Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus had been together for 19 years before he first filed for divorce in October 2010. However, with that much history under their belts, the couple couldn’t let go of their union and dedicated to reconcile. He withdrew the petition a few months later in February 2011.

The pair would stay together for a few more years before Tish filed for divorce in June 2013 before they reconciled again after working through their issues in couples therapy the same year. They ultimately decided to go their separate ways in 2022, after 28 years of marriage, and have both since remarried (though not without some continued drama).

Dave & Odette Annable

The Annables were back on, just over nine months since announcing their separation.

On Aug. 3, 2020, the couple posted identical Instagram photos and captions, confirming their reconciliation with sunny smooching selfie. "2020. It ain't all bad news. #TheAnnables," they wrote with the snapshot. Over on his wife's post, Dave playfully commented, "My post is better."

Not long after, the two announced they were expecting baby No. 2.

The Brothers & Sisters actor and Supergirl actress tied the knot in a private ceremony in Ojai, just north of Los Angeles, on Oct. 10, 2010. After nine years of marriage, the pair announced in October 2019 that they were separating.

Kelly Ripa & Mark Consuelos

Turns out Ripa and husband Consuelos had a nontraditional trip to the altar ahead of their May 1996 nuptials.

"Right before we got married, we broke up," the Live With Kelly and Ryan host told Emma Diamond and Julie Kramer on the debut episode of Betches' Comments by Celebs podcast. "We broke up and we got back together the day before we went off and eloped. Yeah, we eloped. We went to Vegas and got married."

Miguel and Nazanin Mandi

Singer Miguel and Nazanin Mandi were together for 10 years before they got engaged in 2016. They were married at the Hummingbird Nest Ranch in Simi Valley, California in November 2018 but split in September 2021.

They tried to sort out their differences and were back together in February 2022. However, they decided to go their separate ways and Mandi filed for divorce in October the same year.

Justin & Hailey Bieber

Now they're happily married, but before they tied the knot in 2018, Bieber and Baldwin had to work through a couple of bumps in the road.

The couple previously dated before they split in 2016. After calling it quits, "we went through a long period of time when we weren't friends," Baldwin told U.K. newspaper The Times. By June 2018, the pair was spotted packing on the PDA. The next month, the pair announced their engagement and then they got married twice since — once at a courthouse in New York City and then a second time at a beautiful ceremony in South Carolina surrounded by friends and family.

The two are expecting their first child together.

Dax Shepard & Kristen Bell

Long before they became one of the most adorable couples in Hollywood — and parents to daughters Lincoln and Delta — Bell and Shepard hit a rough patch and briefly split.

"We were dating for about three months," Bell explained to POPSUGAR. "He sat me down and said, 'I can't have this right now. I think you're wonderful, but I am still dating other people.' And then I, like, liquefied and fell to the ground, but I felt incredibly respected that he had the balls to tell me we weren't in the same place."

Thankfully, Shepard quickly realized that his now-wife was the one, and confessed: "'I don't know what I was thinking. In 2016, Sharon and Ozzy briefly split after rumblings of infidelity, but reconciled shortly thereafter. She opened up about her relationship status on her show The Talk.

Gabrielle Union & Dwyane Wade

After getting together in 2009, Union and retired NBA star Wade went on a break in April 2013 before becoming engaged in December 2013 and tying the knot in September 2014.

"We kind of took a step back," Wade said of their reconciliation during an appearance on The Tonight Show. "We supported each other, but we took a step back for a little while. At the end of day, we came back together and said, 'Listen, we want to continue this. We want to try to continue to get better each day.'"

For the Maroon 5 frontman, it took dating someone else to realize Victoria's Secret model Prinsloo was the one. Following the couple's brief breakup, Levine broke it off with fellow VS model Nina Agdal – who he had been dating at the time – and promptly proposed to Prinsloo. "Famous last words, 'I'll never get married,' " Levine recalled on The Tonight Show in 2013. "I still don't necessarily think you have to get married unless you meet someone that makes you want to marry them. And then you marry them and it's wonderful."

Khloé Kardashian and Tristan Thompson first got together in 2016 and though rumors were circulating that the NBA player was cheating on Kardashian days before she gave birth to their daughter in April 2018, it wasn't until it was revealed he cheated with Jordyn Woods, a close family friend, that the pair officially split.

They two would "give their relationship another try" in the summer of 2020 but called it quits for a final time in June 2021. Though the two welcomed another child via surrogate in August 2022, sources said there was no hope for a romantic reconciliation — particularly because Kardashian awas "blindsided" by the news that Thompson welcomed a son with Maralee Nichols in December 2021, just one month after Kardashian and Thompson's son Tatum was conceived.

Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus

It looked like Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus were headed for happily ever after following their 2016 reconciliation and 2018 wedding. However, the two couldn't make it work and divorced in 2020.

Hemsworth and Cyrus first began dating in 2009 after meeting on the set of The Last Song. They were on-again, off-again for several years before they called off their first engagement in 2013.

Timberlake and Biel amicably split in March 2011 — four years after first being linked together — but the break was quick; the couple got back together in August and were engaged in December 2011.

The pair went their separate ways after the Grey's Anatomy star's wife filed for divorce in January 2015. But the actor, whose commitment to the racetrack is said to have been a major issue for the couple, confirmed that the two decided to reconcile in an interview with ES Magazine. "You have to work at everything," he said. "And you cannot do everything. Something has to be sacrificed."
