23 Jump Street: Channing Tatum Says He “Would Love To Do It”
Channing Tatum revealed to ComicBook.com that there's another chapter to the 21 Jump Street saga ready to go, but bureaucracy has so far stopped it from making it to production.
"There is a project that was written," Tatum told the interviewer before making a bold statement: "It's still the best script that I've ever read for a third movie".
21 Jump Street hit theaters in 2012 and starred Tatum opposite Jonah Hill in the tale of two high school best friends turned undercover cops who are sent back to school to take down a drug ring.
The action comedy had critics giggling all the way to giving it an 85% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, leading to a follow-up film — 22 Jump Street — getting the greenlight and stealing hearts all over again, landing an 84% rating when it hit theaters.
While it's been a decade since the release of 22 Jump Street, Tatum says, "We've been trying to get [23 Jump Street] done".
What's prevented it from getting the go-ahead? Tatum's only answer was "A lot of bureaucracy, above-the-line stuff that it's really hard to get it made."
However, Tatum hasn't shut down the idea.
"I'm gonna put some good juju out there," Tatum said, "I would love to see 23 [Jump Street]. I would love to do it with Jonah. Jonah, I know, wants to do it. We would love to just get to go play again."
