Whether you're looking for casual leggings to lounge in, stretchy varieties for workouts, or affordable alternatives to your favorite pricey pair, there's a good chance you'll find them on Amazon. That said, with over 30,000 pairs on the site to choose from, you may also find yourself a little overwhelmed by the options.
Fashion stylist Chelsea Volpe tells PEOPLE that she has "lived in leggings" for years now. "I have leggings for nearly every occasion, be it a trend forward ready-to-wear faux leather legging for a night out or a body-hugging spandex number for a trip to the gym," she says.
We researched hundreds of leggings and reviewed customer feedback to find the best of what Amazon has to offer. We looked for options that are comfortable, flattering, and pass the ever-important squat test. For any athletic leggings, we made sure that our selections are moisture-wicking and easy to move in.

How to Pick the Right Leggings on Amazon
Take Our Word For It
Best Overall: Satina High-Waisted Leggings
Who It's Good For: Someone looking for a versatile pair of leggings that are budget-friendly.
Who It's Not Good For: Anyone that prefers a softer cotton material, as this material has more sheen that wicks away sweat.
Despite the abundance of competition, these high-waisted leggings from Satina have earned the title of Amazon best seller. Within the impressive number of high ratings, reviewers say they are extremely comfortable and buttery soft. Many customers have gone back and purchased multiple pairs after falling in love with them.
While there are only two sizes available (one size and one size plus), these leggings are super stretchy to fit most bodies without being see-through. They come in 25 colors and three styles — full length, full length with pockets, and capri length — so you have tons of options.
Price at time of publish: $9.99-$22.99
Colors: 25 | Material: 92% polyester, 8% spandex | Sizes: One size, one size plus
Best Budget: Gayhay Soft Opaque High-Waisted Leggings
Who It's Good For: People shopping for leggings that are good for long-term wear, lounging, and exercise (especially those who want an affordable option).
Who It's Not Good For: Anyone who needs more extensive size options.
If you need high-quality leggings at a reasonable price, look no further than this soft pair from Gayhay. The leggings are creamy smooth — made with a blend of polyester and spandex — as one shopper put it, "softer than my pajamas." There are three size options available, as well as 34 prints and colors. You can stand out with a black and white checkered print, or go for a more neutral solid gray.
The same reviewer said the elastic waistband stays in place above your stomach and the material, though lightweight, isn't see-through. Another happy customer bought the high-waisted leggings two years ago, and was appreciative that they didn't pill or fade. Between the durability, color variety, and softness, the Gayhay leggings are a must-have pair.
Price at time of publish: $9.99
Colors: 34 | Material: 92% polyester, 8% spandex | Sizes: S-XXL
Best Squat-Proof: 90 Degree by Reflex Leggings
Who It's Good For: Anyone looking for a pair of supportive, squat-proof leggings that will stay up at the gym.
Who It's Not Good For: Shoppers who prefer a more matte finish — these have a bit of sheen to them.
Shoppers looking for thick leggings that aren't see-through love this pair from 90 Degree by Reflex. The stretchy leggings are made out of a moisture-wicking nylon and spandex fabric blend, have a hidden waistband pocket, and come in 24 colors. They have a gentle, compressive fit that doesn't budge during exercise, and a slight luster that one shopper described as "in-between" spandex and cotton. Shoppers say they're very supportive, fit like a glove, and can even smooth out cellulite.
"It's hard to find leggings that are squat-proof, thick, lined, durable, cute, and don't lose stretch over time," one customer wrote. "I love these because they're all those things and more. And by more, I mean they also come with pockets."
Price at time of publish: $24.99
Colors: 44 | Material: 87% nylon, 13% spandex | Sizes: XS-3X
Best Pockets: The Gym People High-Waisted Leggings
Who It's Good For: These pocketed leggings are ideal for runners or anyone running errands who need a convenient place to store their phone or wallet.
Who It's Not Good For: Anyone looking for flared or mid-rise leggings.
Looking for a pair of leggings with pockets big enough to hold a wine bottle? Meet The Gym People's high-waisted leggings. The leggings have made quite the commotion on the site thanks to their extra roomy pockets, which we put to the test. Amazon reviewers have been adding photos of themselves wearing the leggings with a bottle of wine in the pocket to show how spacious and stretchy they are — and the bottles stay put, too.
The Gym People leggings come in a few styles, including full-length, capri, fleece-lined, and "naked feeling," which is made with a more lightweight fabric. Available up to 3XL, these leggings come in 39 different varieties, so there's something for almost everyone.
Price at time of publish: $24.99
Colors: 39 | Material: 88% polyamide, 12% spandex | Sizes: XS-3XL
Best Fleece-Lined: Luga High-Waisted Leggings
Who It's Good For: Anyone needing a pair for running, cross-training, or yoga (especially in the winter), as these fleece-lined leggings are warm and will stay in place.
Who It's Not Good For: Shoppers living in warmer climates or anyone needing super breathable leggings.
The Luga high-waisted leggings are a customer favorite for their buttery soft feel. The fleece lining provides warmth yet retains breathability so you don't overheat when exercising. They also have pockets for storing your phone, cards, or other small necessities.
Made from 100 percent spandex, these leggings are comfortable and stretchy enough for lounging or working out. You can choose from up to 10 colors including coffee brown, wine red, and space gray, and the leggings come in a decently inclusive size range. Though listed as hand wash only, customers say the leggings are machine-washable and hold up well even after several washing cycles.
Price at time of publish: $29.99
Colors: 10 | Material: 100% spandex | Sizes: XS-3XL
Best Butt-Lifting: Seasum High-Waisted Leggings
Who It's Good For: Anyone looking for a pair of leggings that lift with a bunch of color options.
Who It's Not Good For: Those who are petite and prefer leggings with a shorter inseam.
We'd be surprised if you don't own Seasum's TikTok viral leggings already. The honeycomb textured leggings have made their rounds all over social media thanks to their butt-enhancing effects. In fact, they're so popular that even Lizzo got herself a pair. Between their rise to TikTok fame and the fact that they were already a highly rated choice on Amazon before all the buzz, Seasum's leggings have gained over 55,000 five-star ratings (and that number keeps growing).
The leggings have a butt-scrunch design meant to highlight your derriere, come in 94 colors including bright options and tie-dye varieties, and are available in sizes XS to 4XL. Thousands of shoppers have raved about how comfortable and soft they are. However, some customers also say the inseam is rather long, so if you're petite and don't like when leggings bunch up at the ankle, you may want to go with a different pair on this list.
Price at time of publish: $16.99
Colors: 94 | Material: Polyester and spandex blend | Sizes: XS-4XL
Best "Lululemon Dupe": Colorfulkoala High-Waisted Leggings
Who It's Good For: Those who love the look of Lululemon leggings, since this pair from Colorfulkoala has a similar design for a lower cost.
Who It's Not Good For: Anyone looking for a pair of leggings that are effective in a cold climate, as this material is very light and breathable.
When it comes to finding a Lululemon-quality alternative, Amazon customers believe Colorfulkoala's high-waisted leggings are some of the best. The buttery soft leggings are best-sellers in three categories and have racked up more than 31,000 five-star ratings. Made out of a nylon and spandex fabric blend, the leggings were designed to and provide a skin-like feel with unrestricted movement, according to the brand. Thousands of customers agree with those claims and note that they're both smooth and stretchy.
Price at time of publish: $19.54
Colors: 34 | Material: 80% nylon, 20% spandex | Sizes: XS-XL
Best Patterns: Crz Yoga Naked Feeling High-Waisted Leggings
Who It's Good For: Those who prefer name-brand leggings but are looking for a more cost-effective option.

Thousands of Amazon customers also turn to Crz's Naked Feeling leggings for a similar fit and feel to Lululemon, and the great color and pattern variety doesn't hurt, either. The popular leggings are lightweight and are made to feel like second-skin material while still being squat-proof and opaque. They come in 35 matte colors, including stylish leopard print options, and are available in sizes XXS to XL. Out of over 2,500 five-star reviews, more than 300 shoppers compared them to Lululemon, with many saying that they're a great dupe.
Price at time of publish: $12-$26
Colors: 25 | Material: 71% polyamide, 29% spandex | Sizes: XXS-XL
Best Jogger-Style: Leggings Depot Jogger Leggings
Who It's Good For: Those looking for a pair of comfortable jogger leggings for either lounging or being active.
Who It's Not Good For: Anyone looking for more classic, fitted leggings, as these are more relaxed with a jogger silhouette.
If you want leggings that lean more towards the fit and feel of joggers, over 70,000 Amazon customers rated these Leggings Depot pants 5 stars. Not only do the pants look like a legging-jogger hybrid, but they classify as both on Amazon, too — they're the site's best-selling leggings and best-selling sweatpants. Needless to say, they're the best of both worlds. The Leggings Depot joggers come in several styles, but the ones shoppers love the most is the Activeflex design which has a slimmer fit. The pants have a high-rise waist, cuffed ankles, and three pockets: two on the side and one in the waistband. Shoppers love that they're silky soft and flattering, and we love that they're a little more roomy than your average leggings.
Price at time of publish: $14.99-$16.99
Colors: 161 | Material: Polyester and spandex | Sizes: S-3X
Best Cotton: No Nonsense Women's Cotton Legging
Who It's Good For: Those wanting leggings perfect for a casual day out or lounging at home, as they're super comfortable and soft.
Who It's Not Good For: Anyone looking for a pair of leggings for cardio workouts or those that prefer more elasticity or warmth.
If you're looking for soft leggings to throw on with a sweater or tunic, this cotton pair is a solid base to let your other closet pieces shine. The leggings are simple, machine-washable, and made with a blend of cotton, polyester, and spandex for an opaque appearance that won't show undergarments. The spandex element helps the leggings stay in place at your waist to a degree (though perhaps less so for high-impact cardio movements), and the cotton allows them to feel lightweight and breathable.
With almost 7,000 perfect ratings, these leggings have wowed shoppers with their durability. One reviewer wrote that they've washed the leggings multiple times and they still look good as new. Others love the soft and comfortable fabric — one customer even bought five pairs.
Price at time of publish: $15.98
Colors: 4 | Material: 57% cotton, 38% polyester, 5% spandex | Sizes: S-3X
Best Versatile: Tnnzeet High Waisted Pattern Leggings
Who It's Good For: Those looking for a pair of versatile leggings they could wear for leisure or exercise.
Who It's Not Good For: Anyone needing a pair of opaque leggings that are completely squat-proof.
As a bestseller on Amazon, the Tnnzeet high-waisted leggings have dazzled shoppers with their versatility. One satisfied customer described the fabric as a "soft and stretchy material that's midway between a lounge legging and a workout legging." And despite its elasticity, the fabric doesn't get stretched out, said one customer who wore the leggings for a 10-hour car ride.
The high-waisted design creates shape around your midsection, but doesn't feel too tight like some leggings do. The polyester and spandex create a very comfortable wearing experience, and with 27 colors to choose from — including prints like leopard, pink camouflage, and tie-dye — you can add several pairs to your closet without outfit repeating. Some customers noted the fabric is a little sheer, so if you're worried about that, there are other leggings on our list that have a more opaque appearance.
Price at time of publish: $8.79+
Colors: 27 | Material: Polyester and spandex | Sizes: S-XXL
Best Opaque: Hi Clasmix High Waisted No See-Through Leggings
Who It's Good For: Those wanting completely opaque leggings for gym workouts or someone looking for a pair of leggings that deters pet hair.
Who It's Not Good For: Anyone who needs different sizing than what's available, such as XXS, XS, or anything larger than XL.
These Hi Clasmix leggings have impressed shoppers to the point of more than 11,000 5-star ratings on Amazon. They love the high-waisted cut, stretchy material, and how they're completely opaque. Like most of the leggings we've picked, this type is made with a blend of spandex and polyester for that soft buttery feel that makes leggings so comfortable.
The sizing is a bit general and not super extensive, but there are more than 25 color pairings to choose from — and most come in a set of three, apart from red, white, and black which you can buy individually. Though opaque, these leggings aren't super thick and still remain breathable during high-impact activity. The fabric feels almost silky and one customer was impressed that their dogs' hair doesn't stick to them.
Price at time of publish: $11.95-$23.99
Colors: 27 | Material: 92% polyester, 8% spandex | Sizes: S/M, L/XL
Best Two-Pack: Fengbay Two-pack High Waisted Leggings
Who It's Good For: Anyone is looking for a high-quality legging available as a set of two.
Who It's Not Good For: Those needing different sizing options than what's offered.
Why get one pair of leggings when you can get two? Especially if leggings are in your weekly rotation more than once, it's good to stock up so you always have clean pairs in rotation. With more than 31,000 five-star ratings, these leggings are beloved for their level of comfort, pockets, and warmer lining that bodes well in the cold.
One customer, who has bought six pairs, appreciates the stay-put waist that doesn't roll down and the durable, thick material (described by the brand as non see-through fabric with four-way stretch). However, it's worth noting that sizing only goes up to XXL, so these aren't as size-inclusive as others on the list.
Price at time of publish: $30.99
Colors: 35 | Material: 4-way stretch fabric | Sizes: XS-XXL
Best Black: Fullsoft Three-pack Black Leggings
Who It's Good For: People who are looking for black leggings in several different styles and lengths.
Who It's Not Good For: Those looking for just one pair of leggings or anyone needing different sizing options.
With so many black legging options to choose from (pockets, cross waist, ripped, etc.) the Fullsoft leggings are perfect for those who like one color and one color alone in their closet. Of course, if you do want to venture into color, there are a few options for that, too. These come in sets, so you really get three pairs of leggings for the price of one.
These budget-friendly leggings (which have over 23,000 five-star ratings on Amazon) are made with a durable polyester and spandex blend which washes easily in the laundry machine and retains an opaque appearance. They're comfortable and built to last, according to one customer who wore them through not one, but two pregnancies, noting that they still stay up even postpartum.
Price at time of publish: $22.59-$26.99
Colors: 26 | Material: 92% polyester, 8% spandex | Sizes: S-XL
Best Plus-Size: Leggings Depot High Waist Leggings
Who It's Good For: These leggings are ideal for a range of body types, and are versatile for lounging or exercising.
Who It's Not Good For: Some reviews said the colors were a little off (which isn't too uncommon with digital orders), so if you're set on, let's say, white leggings, maybe go for one of the others on our list.
According to shoppers, this pair from Leggings Depot is a total winner. They praise the fabric for being soft and comfortable and lightweight but not see-through, with no fading or pilling from extensive wear. One reviewer has even purchased 25 pairs. Thankfully, there are 42 colors to choose from, so their collection can continue to grow.
With sizes ranging up to 5X, these are made to fit a variety of body types comfortably. They're also available in cropped or full length, so if you're petite or prefer shorter leggings, you can find some that actually fit. Made with a polyester and spandex blend, the material is stretchy but not too loose.
Price at time of publish: $7.99-$13.99
Colors: 42 | Material: 92% polyester, 8% spandex | Sizes: One Size, One Size Plus, 1X-3X, 3X-5X
How to Pick the Right Leggings on Amazon
Function
"When seeking out the perfect legging, think first about its purpose," says Volpe. "Are you looking for a base-layer legging to wear during your trip to the arctic, a.k.a. New York City in late January? Or are you on the hunt for a durable spandex legging, with a little wiggle room, for busting a move in your Grandma's zumba class?"
How you plan to use the leggings will determine what kind you should get. For instance, if you just want a comfy pair to lounge in, then some cotton leggings like the No Nonsense Women's Cotton Leggings might be a good choice. Runners might look for leggings with pockets, and those engaging in high intensity workouts should find a pair that have a solid waistband to hold them up even during squats. "Repeat after me, the purpose is the foundation — the fabric and silhouette will follow," says Volpe.
Material
Many leggings have a spandex-like feel, but there are lots of materials to choose from — and they're all quite comfortable. "Let's say you need a cozy legging with durability and warmth for frigid winter months," says Volpe. "You'll undoubtedly want a fabric that's thermal, water-resistant and ooo-la-la plush."
You'll see a blend of polyester and spandex in some leggings like our best overall Satina High-Waisted Leggings, and nylon and spandex in others like our favorite pair for squats. Both combinations create a buttery-smooth material that is highly comfortable for lounging or working out. There are also fleece-lined leggings for a warmer option.
Cut
All of the leggings on our list are high-waisted — including the Crz Naked Feeling leggings which sit right above your hips. This cut is popular for its ability to tailor your mid-section and generally includes an elastic waistband to keep your leggings from sliding down during workouts. If you're petite, you may also consider the length (also known as inseam). While traditional yoga pants tend to run longer and flare out at the ankle, we've selected leggings with a more standard cropped length.
Price
Leggings hugely range in price depending on the brand, but you don't have to spend a fortune to find a quality pair. Instead of shelling out $70 for brand favorites like Lululemon, try our dupe pair on Amazon for only $25. If you want to save even more, there are good leggings selling for as little as $10 like our budget pick, the Gayhay Soft Opaque High-Waisted Leggings.
