These $334 'Denim Panties' Are Sparking an Internet Frenzy

You’ve heard of denim shorts, denim jackets and denim pants — but a fashion brand is now trying to make “denim underwear” the next big thing.

The Parisian fashion label Y/Project made waves on the Internet this week as photos of its navy “denim panties” went viral. The social media frenzy started after retailer Ssense posted a picture of the shorts on Instagram, writing, “two words: Denim panties” in a post about how to “take your Canadian tuxedo to the next level.”

The denim pair of underwear, which is described as “denim brief-style shorts,” is being sold for $470 Australian dollars, about $334 U.S. dollars, on Ssense’s website. The product is already sold out in sizes L, XL and XXL.

The unusual shorts were first seen on the Paris Fashion Week runway last fall, as part of Y/Project’s spring/summer 2019 collection.

Social media users quickly chimed in to poke fun at the denim panties.

“This def ain’t it ladies,” one user commented on Ssense’s Instagram post, while another added, “Wow these are just horrible.”

On Twitter, one person penned, “Is it April Fool’s Day already?” as another critic added, “Just no.”

“So today I saw denim panties on a clothing website and I am honestly dumbfounded,” another tweeter wrote. “I can’t find [a] word that mixes disgusted, ashamed, and a little bit angry.”
