5 can't-miss Columbia concerts in April, from Matt Maeson to John Craigie and more
We all know what April showers are meant to bring, but what about great April concerts? No doubt these five shows, among others, will send you forward into the rest of the year with musical memories and a little soul uplift.
April 1: Ruston Kelly at Rose Music Hall
Kelly's "Too Chill to Kill" acoustic run brings the songwriter's vulnerable, emotionally layered work into a truly naked spotlight. Be sure to read our interview with Kelly ahead of the show. Tickets are $25-$28.
April 12: Slaughter Beach, Dog at Rose Music Hall
On Slaughter Beach, Dog records, Jacob Ewald and Co. deliver richly-textured rockers with both immediate and left-field appeal. On this exciting run of dates, Ewald will translate these songs into a solo format. Erin Rae shares the bill. This one is already sold out.
April 20: Post Sex Nachos at The Blue Note
The Columbia-forged band keeps lighting up the night upon migrating to Nashville; the band's new record, "Prima/Vera," is enigmatic, romantic and, above all, bears a cool pop momentum. Me Like Bees and Venus and the Flytraps share the bill. Tickets are $15.60-$30.

April 27: Matt Maeson at The Blue Note
On hits like "Cringe" and "Hallucinogenics," the Virginia native "plays a dark-hued brand of rock that mixes gritty folk elements with slick modern pop production," as AllMusic's Timothy Monger notes. Sold out.
April 27: John Craigie and Mason Jennings at Rose Music Hall
Craigie and Jennings form a tight double bill of songwriters' songwriters; West Coast-er Craigie brings a wry melodicism to his work, while Minneapolis resident Jennings knows how to make the most of the fine details. Tickets are $25-$29.
