Generate Key Takeaways

When it comes to Marvel, we tend to think about their hit blockbuster films like The Avengers and Iron Man, but it turns out the Marvel Cinematic Universe goes far beyond that. In fact, there are quite a few Marvel TV shows that are just as good  — if not better — than the best Marvel movies, including the eight listed below. Keep scrolling!

8. ‘The Punisher’ (2017 to 2019): A Marvel TV classic

The Punisher was one of the short-lived Marvel TV shows that never connected to any of its other movies or shows. In it, Frank Castle, AKA The Punisher (Jon Bernthal), uncovers a New York City Underworld filled with criminals that might just be the key to helping him figure out what really happened to his late wife and kids.

The Punisher ran for 26 episodes and was even nominated for an Emmy in the outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Drama Series, Limited Series or Movie category.

7. ‘Agent Carter’ (2015 to 2016): A spy thriller adventure

We loved Agent Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) in Captain America, but seeing her without Steve Rodgers (Chris Evans) just seemed a bit odd. The Agent Carter show takes place after the events of Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) and follows Carter as she moves from New York City to Los Angeles and soon faces a danger she never saw coming.

The show had some pretty fun co-stars, such as James D’Arcy and Chad Michael Murray, but it sadly only ran for two seasons.

6. ‘Daredevil’ (2015 to 2018): Dark, gritty justice

Everyone was so excited to see Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) return in the 2021 hit movie Spider-Man: No Way Home, but where was he before that? Well, it turns out he was starring in the 2015 Marvel TV show Daredevil. Not only was it nominated for five Emmys during its run, but it was also the first Marvel show to originally run on Netflix to ever to be revived on Disney Plus (coming soon). The plot follows a superhero and attorney who is blind, but still manages to fight crime on the streets of New York City.

Daredevil ran for three seasons, but Matt Murdock continued to appear in Marvel projects after that.

5. ‘The Defenders’ (2017): A superhero team-up

A year before the Marvel movie characters teamed up in Avengers: Infinity War, the Marvel TV show characters came together in the 2017 miniseries The Defenders. It consisted of Matt Murdock (Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Danny Rand (Finn Jones) as they band together to fight the villain named The Hand, who was haunting New York City.

The Defenders ran for eight episodes and was nominated for one Emmy.

4. ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ (2013 to 2020): Espionage and action

No one in this show was saying, “Hail Hydra.” Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division) is Marvel’s longest-running TV show to date. It features fan-favorite character Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) in the lead role and follows him as he teams up with other S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents to try and fight the evil group Hydra.

3. ‘Moon Knight’ (2022): The psychological thriller

Who doesn’t love Oscar Issac, especially when he is saving the world? The 2022 Marvel show Moon Knight served as Issac’s entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and follows his character, Steven Grant, as he learns he has come into possession of powers similar to the Egyptian Moon God Khonsu.

Sadly, Moon Knight only ran for one season, and Issac has yet to be spotted in any other Marvel projects, but we are ready for when he does!

2. ‘Loki’ (2021 to 2023): Chaotic time-bending

Loki (Tom Hiddleston) might be the villain we all love to hate, but in the TV show named after him, we simply just loved him! Loki expands the Marvel multiverse:  It's set after Loki takes the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame (2019) and somehow winds up at the Time Variance Authority (TVA — featured prominently in the recent blockbuster Deadpool and Wolverine) in a role he never thought possible: potential hero.

Owen Wilson also appears in Loki, which ran for two seasons.

1. ‘WandaVision’ (2021): Surreal and captivating

WandaVision served as a new era for Marvel TV shows as a blend of nostalgia with modern superhero action, and was truly a joy to watch from start to finish. Similar to Loki, WandaVision takes place right after Avengers: Endgame (2019) and features Wanda Maximus (Elizabeth Olsen) and her now husband Vision (Paul Bettany) living their lives in some sort of classic TV time loop. We won’t spoil the ending, but trust us when we say no one will see it coming.

WandaVision only had one season but serves as the prequel for the Marvel TV show Agatha All Along and sets up aspects of the feature film Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness (2022).
