Who is Jennifer Love Hewitt’s husband?

Hewitt’s Maddie Buckley may have just tied the knot with Chimney (played by Kenneth Choi) on Season 7 of 9-1-1, but off-screen, the actress has been happily married to her husband, Brian Hallisay, for over a decade. Like his wife, Hallisay is also an actor and the pair met on the set of the show The Client List, in which Hallisay played Hewitt’s estranged husband, in 2012.

In June 2013, the couple revealed that they were engaged and expecting their first child together. That November, they secretly wed on Nov. 20, 2013, just five days before their daughter, Autumn James, was born. Hewitt and Hallisay went on to welcome sons Atticus James and Aidan James in 2015 and 2021, respectively.

The married pair reunited on-screen again when Hallisay recurred on Season 2 of 9-1-1 as Doug Kendall, Maddie’s abusive ex-husband. In “Fight or Flight,” Doug went off the rails after learning of Maddie and Chimney’s relationship, stabbing both of them and kidnapping Maddie. Chimney and Maddie survived the ordeal, but thankfully, Doug did not. Nevertheless, Hallisay continues to pop up on the show as figments of Maddie or Chimney’s imagination. Most recently, he appeared in the Season 7’s “There Goes the Groom,” when Chimney was hallucinating.

“It was just lovely to go to work together,” Hewitt said of the experience during a 2019 interview with ET Canada. “We both had never been able to play characters like this in our careers, these characters with dark, twisted things to them. And, so, that’s been really fun for us.”

In June 2024, Hewitt revealed that she and her husband are co-starring alongside each other again in an upcoming Lifetime holiday movie, tentatively titled The Holiday Junkie. The film will also feature their children and Hewitt is directing. “To be able to direct and be in this movie with my husband is such a special opportunity. And to be back home with Lifetime feels as right as Christmas magic!” Hewitt said in a statement. The Holiday Junket marks Hewitt’s first time directing a full-length film and her first project with Lifetime since The Client List wrapped in 2013.

The holiday movie, which was inspired by Hewitt’s love of the holidays and the loss of her mother, will follow Andie (Hewitt), who runs a decorating and planning service company with her mom, Mimi. After Mimi passes away, Andie is forced to face her first Christmas without her mother and carry The Holiday Junkie torch on her own. Despite the challenges, Andie may also find some love at Christmas along the way.

Hewitt celebrated the news on Instagram, writing alongside a press release: “I have been keeping a Christmas secret! The Holiday Junkie is coming to your tv! Can’t wait!” Details about Hallisay’s character have not yet been revealed, but we can assume he’ll be playing her love interest, which is a refreshing change of pace from playing her murderous ex!

Hallisay himself is very private and does not have social media. Hewitt occasionally posts tributes to him on her own account, though, including on their 10th anniversary in November 2023. “10 years! I knew the moment we met that my life would be better with you in it. And the last ten years have been more than I could’ve ever dreamed,” she captioned two photos of herself and Hallisay. “Our beautiful kids and family that is truly my everything. Our adventures, tears, hard times, great times and simple days where not much happens at all. It’s my perfect dream because it’s with you. It’s has always been you my love. I can’t wait to see what the next 10 years bring us.”
