Has '9-1-1' Been Renewed for Season 8?

9-1-1

9-1-1 has been renewed for Season 8 by ABC ahead of the popular procedural’s 100th episode, which will air April 4, 2024.

News of the renewal comes a couple of weeks after the first responder drama’s Season 7 premiere—its first on new network ABC, which inherited the series from its home base of Fox. According to ABC, the premiere drew 11.8 million multiplatform viewers within a week of its debut, cementing the show as ABC’s most-watched current series across platforms this season.

Back in May 2023, Fox canceled its highest-rated series for financial reasons, leading ABC to swoop in for a pickup. The show now airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET, between fellow top-rated series Grey’s Anatomy (also recently renewed) and Station 19 (canceled shortly after 9-1-1’s acquisition).

The renewal isn't a large surprise for devoted viewers or the network itself, given its success and the reprisal of parent company Disney's overall deal with co-creator Ryan Murphy, who also has ABC series Dr. Odyssey, a Hulu legal drama (with Kim Kardashian) and FX show Grotesquerie forthcoming at the conglomerate.

Here’s everything we know about 9-1-1 Season 8 so far, including potential release date and cast.

What is 9-1-1 Season 8 about?

Season 7 of 9-1-1 kicked off with a three-parter cruise ship disaster homage to The Poseidon Adventure, capsizing Athena (Angela Bassett) and Bobby’s (Peter Krause) honeymoon. The season's fourth episode promises to be a big one as the show embarks on its 100th episode, featuring a crossover with ABC peer The Bachelor.

The rest of the installment, which comprises 10 episodes total due to the show's delayed release following the WGA and SAG strikes last year, is guaranteed to include some big moments, such as Chim (Kenneth Choi) and Maddie's (Jennifer Love Hewitt) wedding and Buck's (Oliver Stark) personal growth.

Even though it's too soon to tell what exactly will go down at the 118, it's safe to assume we can count on more emergencies, relationship developments and epic rescues.

Who is in the 9-1-1 Season 8 cast?

While it’s too early to determine the exact cast lineup heading into next season, we can venture a guess that the show's mainstays are set to return to the 118. They are:

What is the 9-1-1 Season 8 release date?

Even though Season 7 featured a late release and truncated length due to the Hollywood strikes last year, 9-1-1 has steadily premiered in mid- to late-September of each year. If all goes according to plan, Season 8 should be eyeing an early fall release date later this year.
