9-1-1 Sneak Peek Introduces Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s Character — How Is He Connected to Bobby? (Exclusive)
Malcolm-Jamal Warner makes his 9-1-1 debut tonight (ABC, 8/7c) in the recurring role of Amir, a friendly nurse with a complicated past. And as you’ll see in TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek, he makes quite the first impression Maddie, a former nurse herself.
In the clip above, Maddie senses a kindred spirit in Amir, inspiring her to casually share the darkest and most terrifying moment of her life — the time her ex-husband tried to kill her. (First Doug haunts Chimney on his wedding day and now Maddie’s thinking about him? That couple needs to do some sort of cleaning ritual to rid themselves of this man’s memory forever.)

“I tend to trigger honesty in people, maybe because they feel sorry for me,” Amir responds, referring to the aggressive burn scars covering an entire side of his face. Maddie explains that she was actually inspired to open up by his scrubs, since she was a nurse back in Boston.
We already knew from Amir’s official description that he’s somehow connected to Bobby through their shared pasts, and we have all kinds of theories running through our heads now that we’ve gotten our first glimpse of him. Is he someone Bobby once saved from a fire? Or worse, could he have been in the fire that Bobby accidentally set in Minnesota? As if he needs more trauma dumped on him from that experience.
Regardless of how that mystery unfolds, rest assured that it’s going to be another hectic hour for the 118. Thursday’s episode, “Ghost of a Second Chance,” finds Maddie and Athena teaming up to investigate an abducted mother and her child, while Hen and Karen make another discovery about their new foster daughter. And how’s this for a tease, straight from ABC: “Eddie grapples with unresolved feelings for someone from his past.” (Gasp?)
