'90s Con is coming! Here's a short list of the biggest stars to appear at the Ocean Center.
Celebrity conventions serve at least two purposes: Giving fans their brushes with greatness and offering stars a chance to promote their latest projects and make a little scratch.
Anyway, while Daytona Beach has attracted more than its share of celebrities to the Daytona 500, Bike Week and Welcome to Rockville, there's an actual celebrity convention headed to town. '90s Con, as assembled by Thats4Entertainment.com, will be Sept. 13 through Sept.15 at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach.
A one-day pass is $40 on Friday and $60 on Saturday or Sunday. Visitors can also get a weekend pass for $125. A VIP credential, $250, allows fans to meet with the stars of television, film and music. And for a bit more, they can have photos taken and get autographs.
Here's a look at six of the biggest names announced thus far:
Juliette Lewis
Actress Juliette Lewis came of age in the late '80s and early '90s, with roles in "Christmas Vacation" and "Cape Fear," the latter of which she earned an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress playing opposite of Robert DeNiro. She had other roles in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?," "Natural Born Killers" and "From Dusk Till Dawn." Her career has continued into her 40s and 50s, performing as Karen in "August: Osage County," and Natalie in the Emmy-nominated "Yellowjackets."
Shannen Doherty and 'Charmed' co-stars
Shannen Doherty was part of two of TV's biggest hit youth-oriented '90s shows: "Beverly Hills 90120" and "Charmed," who has shared on her podcast "Let's Be Clear" details of her own personal drama, a bout with stage 4 breast cancer. She will be joined by "Charmed" co-stars Holly Marie Combs, Rose McGowan, Brian Krause, Dorian Gregory and Jennifer Rhodes.
Carmen Electra
Lest you think Carmen Electra is a prime candidate for the "famous for being famous" hall of fame, consider how she pinballed across '90s culture: She toured with Prince, hosted the MTV game show "Singled Out," posed for Playboy, dated Dennis Rodman and starred in "Baywatch." And that's before the "Scary Movie" franchise began in 2000.
Joey Lawrence and 'Brotherly Love' sibs
Whoa! For a time in the '90s, Joey Lawrence had a moment in catchprase glory with that repeated utterance on "Blossom." He became a teen idol who later starred in his own show, "Brotherly Love," with real-life brothers both of whom will join him at '90s Con. Matthew Lawrence had roles in the Robin Williams film "Mrs. Doubtfire," and TV's "Boy Meets World," while Andrew Lawrence co-hosts with his siblings "Brotherly Love Podcast."
Catherine Hicks and her '7th Heaven' children
The show "7th Heaven" launched actress Jessica Biel's career and ran for 11 seasons, but is maybe better remembered as a drama praised by the Parents Television Council as a minister and his wife (Catherine Hicks) creating "an atmosphere conducive to honesty," for their seven children. In addition to Hicks, '90s Con will bring to town four of her TV children: Beverley Mitchell, Barry Watson, David Gallagher and Mackenzie Rosman.
Josie Bissett and 'Melrose Place' cast members
Five of the featured performers from prime-time soap "Melrose Place" are on the bill: Daphne Zuniga, Josie Bissett, Grant Show, Laura Leighton and Brook Langton. Among those performers, Bissett was in the most episodes, 172 of the 199 episodes.
