Aamir Khan’s Son Junaid Khan’s Netflix Movie Maharaj Release Date Could be Delayed
Aamir Khan’s son, Junaid Khan, will make his Bollywood debut with Maharaj. The makers have opted for a digital release for the film. It is slated to arrive exclusively on Netflix in a few days. However, it seems that the production has hit a roadblock and is likely to get delayed.
So far, the makers of the movie have revealed its poster featuring Junaid Khan opposite Jaideep Ahlawat. While its trailer has not been unveiled yet, Vishwa Hindu Parishad has raised questions about a religious leader being shown in a negative light in the movie.
For the unversed, Maharaj’s official synopsis reads, “Based on a real-life historic court case, a bold journalist questions a powerful spiritual leader’s extreme control over his followers.” As per the movie’s official press statement, the Maharaj Libel Case of 1862 is reflected in the film. It was fought in the Supreme Court of Bombay between a prominent spiritual leader and Karsandas Mulji, a journalist and social reformer.
Directed by Siddharth P Malhotra, the movie also stars Shalini Pandey. Sharvari Wagh will appear in a cameo role.
Maharaj release date: What did Vishwa Hindu Parishad say about Netflix movie release?
As Maharaj’s release date is inching closer, Netflix has received a letter from Vishwa Hindu Parishad. Gautam Ravriya, coordinator of the Konkan region of VHP-Bajrang Dal, took to his Instagram to reveal his demand from Netflix. Ravriya has asked the OTT giant to hold a premiere ahead of the film’s release to ensure that the movie does not hurt the audience’s religious sentiments. Once they watch the film, they will decide their next course of action.
Netflix has not issued any statement regarding VHP’s demand yet. Meanwhile, Junaid Khan’s Maharaj is currently slated to release on June 14. Stay tuned for more upedates!
