Aaron Hernandez's Fiancée Blasts Jokes About Him at Tom Brady Roast
Tom Brady has been having fun in retirement. On May 5, the seven-time Super Bowl champ was in the hot seat for The Roast of Tom Brady that aired live on Netflix. Everyone from the biggest names in comedy to some of Brady's NFL peers took the opportunity to get some jabs in. But Brady wasn't the only football player to be the butt of the joke.
A few jokes used deceased Patriots player and convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez as a punchline. Hernandez's fiancée Shayanna Jenkins, who was engaged to the player at the time of his death in 2017, wasn't exactly pleased about it.
Jenkins shared her disappointment with the jokes in a statement to TMZ. "It’s sad that I’m trying to raise my children in such a cruel world," she stated plainly. Jenkins shares 11-year-old daughter Avielle with Hernandez, and she told the outlet that her getting older now means she'll likely see what was said about her late father. Hernandez's death was ruled a suicide after he was found to have hung himself in his prison cell.
Brady's former teammate Julian Edelman was among those who took aim at Hernandez to get some laughs from the crowd. "Everyone always asks me how big Gronk's d--k is," Edelman said during the roast about Rob Gronkowski. "Now don't get me wrong, it gets the job done. But there was this other Patriots tight end [Aaron Hernandez]. Now he was hung."

Comedian Nikki Glaser similarly quipped about the circumstances of Hernandez's death. "Give it up for zero-time Super Bowl champion Randy Moss," she said. "Why don't you have a ring? What the hell, man? You're one of the best ever. Drew Bledsoe has a ring. Aaron Hernandez had a ring—around his neck."

Brady himself even took the opportunity to allude to Hernandez's crimes while at the mic. "The bar for a Patriots tight end was pretty low back then," he said. "Block. Catch. Don't murder."

Jenkins' love for Hernandez remains strong. On April 19, she marked the seven-year anniversary of his death with a heartfelt Instagram post.
"It takes as long as it takes," she wrote. "I will always wake up every day only to remember you are not here and have to feel that ache all over again. You are truly loved and missed."
Time will tell which NFL player will be roasted next. But it's pretty safe to say that no matter who you are, you're not safe from becoming a punchline.
