HBO says, “The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”
Pierre plays Stewart, while Chandler stars as Jordan. Chandler’s participation in the series had been widely reported previously, but HBO finally confirmed his involvement.
Pierre has been on a breakout path for a while now. He starred in Barry Jenkins’s acclaimed Amazon series “The Underground Railroad” and M. Night Shyamalan’s “Old” in 2021. Last year, he played Malcolm X on the NatGeo series “Genius: MLK/X.” This year, Pierre starred in the Jeremy Saulnier action thriller “Rebel Ridge” on Netflix and will voice Mufasa in the live-action animated-hybrid “Mufasa: The Lion King,” also from Jenkins. He was recently cast in Season 4 of “The Morning Show.”
“Lanterns” is executive produced by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, Tom King, and James Hawes (who also directed the first two episodes). The show is based on the DC comic “Green Lantern.”
