"Abbott Elementary" Was Renewed For Season 2, And I'm So Excited To See Where Janine And Gregory's Romantic Arc Will Go

I think I speak for everybody when I say that the Abbott Elementary hiatus has deeply, profoundly, truly, and irrevocably had the most negative impact on my soul.

That weekly dose of 30-minute-long nonstop laughter was actually one of the sole (HA) things keeping me going.

Anyway, rest assured, we'll be getting more episodes soon! Not only because the show will be back to finish up its first season on March 22, but also due to it being renewed for a second season!!!

If you're not with the program already (class is *literally* in session, please take your seats!), there are so many reasons to watch the sitcom — from its hilarious comedy and social commentary to the fact that creator Quinta Brunson utilized the series' marketing budget to provide supplies to schools.

Taking a page from Netflix's Lady Whistledown announcement of Bridgerton Season 2, the renewal of the hit ABC show — which impressively quadrupled its ratings in a little over a month — came directly from a fan-favorite character: principal Ava Coleman (Janelle James).

"Faculty and Students (aka My Fans), the camera crew I hired to showcase all that I've made happen at our beautiful school thinks I'm a star. I mean, are we surprised? No, we're not :)," the statement begins.

"Despite my being a natural in front of the camera, these things don't come for free, and my staff is having trouble seeing all of my unleashed potential!" she continued. "Something about needing supplies?"

The letter continues — in Ava fashion — to drag Janine and call for spa gift cards. However, in heartwarming Abbott fashion, the announcement also asks viewers to donate to DonorsChoose.org, a nonprofit that lets individuals directly give to public school classroom projects, should they feel inclined.

Of course, the news was greeted with immediate elation from fans (like me and LeBron James).

While we're certainly not surprised by this news (and welcome it with all our hearts), I am just slightly confused why it wasn't renewed for 10 seasons right off the bat. I'm sure that's just a technical error on ABC's part...Either way, I'm going to need it fixed. Immediately. I'm not kidding.

You can catch Abbott Elementary on Tuesdays on ABC and the following day on Hulu.
