Academy Award winner Mira Sorvino to appear at 17th annual Plaza Classic Film Festival

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Academy Award winner Mira Sorvino will appear at the 17th annual El Paso Community Foundation Plaza Classic Film Festival which is taking place this July in Downtown El Paso, according to the El Paso Community Foundation.

The Community Foundation says the Plaza Classic Film Festival will be from Thursday, July 18 through Sunday, July 28, and will take place at and around the Plaza Theater in Downtown El Paso.

The Community Foundation says Sorvino will appear before the showing of Woody Allen’s “Mighty Aphrodite” (1995) at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 19, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Sorvino will also appear before one of her most popular movies, “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion,” at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 20. Tickets are $10 for each screening and are on sale at the Plaza Theatre Box Office and Ticketmaster.

The Community Foundation says Sorvino joins fellow Academy Award winner Sissy Spacek as this year’s special guests. Spacek will appear with “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” for which she won the Academy Award, at 7 p.m. on July 27 in the Plaza Theatre.

“Sorvino, daughter of late actor Paul Sorvino, has appeared in numerous films and television series since the early 1990s. Notable film appearances include ‘Quiz Show,’ ‘Norma Jean & Marilyn,’ ‘Mimic,’ and last year’s independently released box-office blockbuster ‘Sound of Freedom,’ which dealt with a topic about which Sorvino is passionate — human trafficking,” the Community Foundation said in a press release.

The 17th annual El Paso Community Foundation Plaza Classic Film Festival will feature more than 90 movies.

Individual tickets are available at the box office and Ticketmaster. Passes and special events are on sale at plazaclassic.com/tickets.
