According to the VMAs Red Carpet, Bangs Are Bigger Than Ever (Literally)

If you were waiting for the universe to answer the eternal question of life—"Should I get bangs?”—the 2024 MTV VMAs just answered that question with a stadium full of people screaming “Yes!”
Bangs were the reigning trend on the red carpet, as it seemed like basically everyone walking the red carpet was rocking either a fresh set of fringe or an update to their signature hairstyle. We saw big, fluffy curtain bangs. We saw ultra-precise brow-length bangs. We saw side bangs and wavy bangs, and all of this fringe was thick, full, or fluffy. Basically every style of bangs was present and accounted for, urging us all to pick up the scissors—or pick up the phone and book an appointment.
See our favorite bangs from the VMAs below.
Megan Thee Stallion
Our host for the evening, Megan Thee Stallion made her first appearance of many throughout the night in a sleek, chin-length bob with straight-across, brow-length bangs, styled by Kellon Deryck. This is definitely a go-to style for the rapper, and she recently wore a similar bright red look in Tokyo.
Sabrina Carpenter
Sabrina Carpenter nabbed a much-deserved Moon Person trophy for Song of Year for “Espresso,” and did so in an archival Bob Mackie dress originally worn by Madonna. Her signature curtain bangs were present and accounted for, and stylist Evanie Frausto revealed that he popped a roller in them a whopping six hours before glam began to make sure they were perfectly plumped before she walked the carpet. (He also gave her a shoulder-length cut.)
Lisa
BLACKPINK's Lisa was also on board for bangs. The musician, who performed her songs “New Woman” and “Rockstar” during the show, wore her hair straight with long bangs that fell past her brows and almost touched her lashes. We loved the way her bangs highlighted her hooded Mugler gown.
Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift and her signature bangs walked the carpet just before the show began. She wore her hair in voluminous, tousled, undone subtle waves with her bangs brushed slightly to the side, similar to the way she wore them at boyfriend Travis Kelce's first NFL game of the season.
Chappell Roan
Chappell Roan, who won Best New Artist and staged a (literally) fiery performance where she shot an arrow of flame at a castle before launching into “Good Luck Babe!,” went for a Joan of Arc vibe with loose, medieval-inspired braids by hairstylist Dom Forletta. Her auburn bangs were slightly parted to either side, revealing skinny brows and a painterly gold and pink eye, and long tendrils were pulled loose to frame her face like a Renaissance painting.
