Actress Christine Lakin Makes a Bold Claim About 'Fuller House' Firing Involving Candace Cameron Bure
Actress Christine Lakin revealed that she was let go from Fuller House, sharing her theory involving Candace Cameron Bure about why it happened.
On the newest episode of the podcast How Rude, Tanneritos! hosted by Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber, who played Stephanie Tanner and Kimmy Gibbler in Full House and Fuller House, respectively, Lakin shared her history with the sequel series.
Lakin, who played Alicia "Al" Lambert on the '90s sitcom Step by Step, described how she had a meeting with Fuller House creator Jeff Franklin, who invited her to come in to talk about a role. Everything seemed to go well and the first table read was coming up, when she got a call from her manager saying, "Yes, something happened. They’re pushing the table read. I think there’s some stuff with the script they want to rewrite."
But in the end, the table read never happened, with Lakin saying, "The next day happened and my manager calls and says, ‘Hey, I don’t know how to tell you this, but you’ve been let go.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’"
Her manager reportedly said, "Yeah, they just said they’re rewriting the character and they’re not going to need you anymore," leading Lakin to question, "What did I do wrong?"
Lakin began by clarifying that she doesn't know exactly why she was let go, but said, "I'll just give you some facts, and you can put this together, anyone can put this together any way they want."
She described how, seven years before her meeting for Fuller House, Lakin participated in a Funny or Die video satirizing Cameron Bure's brother Kirk Cameron's anti-LGBTQ+ comments, which she described as "damaging."
"All I can think of is that it created some bad blood," said Lakin. "And seven years later, my presence was not wanted. That’s maybe what I think.”
In response, Sweetin joked, "So should we do another Funny or Die video?" The conversation continued with the women chatting about Lakin's friend, Virginia Williams, who reportedly took on the role Lakin was initially approached about.
As of writing, neither Cameron Bure nor her brother have shared any response to Lakin's statement.
