Adam Sandler is giving an update on filming for Happy Gilmore 2, while also sharing a look at how a certain insider feels about the latest version of the screenplay.
Sandler took to Instagram on Tuesday to post a photo of his bulldog Bagel relaxing on a copy of the script, which has the pooch’s name printed on it. Two golf balls are nearby, with Sandler adding the caption, “Going good so far.”

Kyle Newacheck is directing Netflix’s sequel feature that is set to co-star Margaret Qualley and Bad Bunny, with Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald returning from the first film. Additionally, Travis Kelce will make a cameo.
Focusing on Sandler’s titular unlikely golfer who becomes known for his long drives, the original Happy Gilmore hit theaters in February 1996 from Universal Pictures. The sports comedy was directed by Dennis Dugan, who is an executive producer on the sequel.
Happy Gilmore 2 began production in New Jersey on Sept. 9, which was Sandler’s 58th birthday. On that same day, he appeared on ESPN 2’s ManningCast, hosted by Peyton Manning and Eli Manning.
“We just started shooting that movie today,” Sandler told the brothers and former NFL stars during the broadcast. “It was great. It was fun.” The actor also offered advice to Peyton Manning on how to perfect his lead character’s signature running approach to his golf swing: “I go with a three-step or a four-step drop.”
Back in 2015, Dugan told The Hollywood Reporter that a Happy Gilmore sequel seemed unlikely to happen at that time. Dugan said back then of Sandler reprising his role, “I can’t imagine he’d ever do that, but it’s Hollywood, so you never say that’ll never happen.”
