Affion Crockett Shares Video Of Celebs Turning Plane Into Party En Route To Essence Fest
Several celebs and high-profile names unapologetically jammed out to the iconic “Before I Let Go” by Frankie Beverly and Maze while on their flight from Los Angeles to New Orleans for Essence Fest 2024.
On July 10, actor and comedian Affion Crockett posted footage of the celebs getting their lives onboard the plane. His clip included Kyla Pratt, Amber Riley, Ava DuVernay, Coleman Domingo, and Aisha Hinds.
Crocket also tagged Major Johnson Finley, Omar Benson Miller, Carlos Campbell, and Hype Hair Magazine CEO Lia Dias. He noted that DuVernay could be thanked for capturing the special moment.
In his caption, Crockett said the old-school onboard singalong was his favorite moment of Essence Fest weekend. The First Wives Club actor detailed the loving reaction the celebs had toward one another during boarding when they all realized they were on the same flight to New Orleans.
“In this town called Hollywood, we are all blessed to wake up and do what we love as individuals. It can often feel like a lonely path until you meet genuine folks that become your tribe,” Crockett penned. “So the SHEER JOY we all felt in that jetway when we unexpectedly saw each other is something I still can’t describe. I’m proud to know these amazing people and I’m forever a fan.”
“It wasn’t quite Soul Plane but the plane had a lot of SOUL. I love US,” he added.
How Did Social Media React To The Star-Studded Flight To Essence Fest?
Instagram commenters loved seeing the “cookout” energy the Black stars had. Several noted that the group seemed to be traveling in Delta’s first class.
Meanwhile, Major Johnson Finley funnily and lightheartedly noted that he and others “were partially lit” in Delta’s Comfort Plus section.
A few travelers claimed to have experienced the community-building power of heading to Essence Fest for themselves. One person wrote, “Last time I went to Essence we were doing line dancing at the airport gate.”
Another added, “When you’re headed to Essence, that’s acceptable! I did that with a group of ladies one year headed to Essence! We are still friends to this day!”
