The Afterparty Not Returning for Season 3 at Apple TV+ (Exclusive)

You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here: Apple TV+ has officially cancelled The Afterparty after two seasons, TVLine has learned exclusively.

Each season of the killer comedy, from Chris Miller and Phil Lord (Last Man on Earth), revolved around a self-contained murder mystery and featured a new cast (save for leads Tiffany Haddish, Sam Richardson and Zo? Chao, all of whom appeared in both seasons.)

Season 2 (which wrapped on Sept. 6) followed the aftermath of a ruined wedding after the groom is found murdered. “Detective Danner (Haddish) returns to help Aniq (Richardson) and Zo? (Chao) solve the whodunnit by questioning family members, star-crossed lovers and business partners, and hearing each suspect’s retelling of the weekend, each with their own unique perspective and visual style,” per the official synopsis.

In the Season 2 finale, Zo? made a shocking (yet comedic) confession, Vivian made a big move to help the case and loads of guest-stars popped in for cameos, including Keke Palmer, Elijah Wood and Jaleel White (who’s playing the part of Sam in Danner’s movie). Martin Mull appeared as Sheriff Reardon, who finally agreed to listen to Danner and Aniq’s theory as they correctly nailed the killer. (Get all of the spoiler-y details in our recap.)

The sophomore season also starred John Cho (Selfie), Paul Walter Hauser (Cobra Kai), Ken Jeong (Community), Anna Konkle (PEN15), Poppy Liu (Hacks), Elizabeth Perkins (Weeds), Jack Whitehall (Good Omens), Zach Woods (Silicon Valley) and Vivian Wu (Away).

Sad we won’t be attending another Afterparty? Sound off in the comments.
