Agatha All Along First Reviews – Critics Are Divided in Early Opinions of New Marvel Series

Agatha All Along is finally on Disney+ after fans have been anticipating the series starring Kathryn Hahn since it was announced years ago as a response to the reception to Hahn's interpretation of Agatha Harkness in Marvel's WandaVision.

Hahn says she "had a blast" filming the series, which will be nine episodes long and released weekly from now until October 30 with other cast members, including Patti LuPone, Aubrey Plaza, Paul Adelstein, Joe Locke, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, and Okwui Okpokwasili.

The verdict is in from the first reviews, and the show has debuted with considerably less hype than WandaVision did in 2021.

Agatha All Along currently holds a Rotten Tomatoes critics' score of 69% from 55 reviews but has a higher rating from audience members, who gave it 76%, an 11% drop-off from the audience rating of WandaVision.

Alison Herman at Variety says the series "has a sense of humor that's a marked change of pace from the MCU's quippy, Joss Whedon-influenced house style." Herman went on to say that Agatha All Along is "thoroughly enjoyable" and the series has "a sense of fun".

Ben Travers at IndieWire was less kind, saying, "this drama-comedy-fantasy-horror hybrid isn't committed enough to any of its genres" and "the jokes are sparse, the effects are too slapped-together, and the scares are polite."

USA Today's Kelly Lawler agrees, saying the series "is trying to do too many things at once", but Joshua Yehl at IGN calls it "delightfully wicked" and says the "two-part premiere does an excellent job of continuing the story of WandaVision while building out the witchy side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe."

So, as to be expected with any Marvel endeavor, there's a kaleidoscope of opinions out there ready for you to delve into, or you can watch Agatha All Along now on Disney+ and make up your own mind.
