Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez calls being a guest judge on 'RuPaul's Drag Race' a 'peak experience'
Rep, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is pledging allegiance to the drag — as one of the guest judges on the upcoming 12th season of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
The freshman congresswoman, who’s a longtime fan of the show, shared a promo touting her guest gig and wrote that sitting on the judging panel for the competition, in which 13 drag queens vie for the title of “America’s Drag Superstar,” was “absolutely, 100% a peak experience.”

A longer clip previews the contestants taking part in political-themed challenges. Ocasio-Cortez has a moment in her episode in which she tells an emotional contestant that she’s “so grateful that you’re a part of our country.” To another drag queen, she says, “I think you are fabulous.”

The Bronx, N.Y. native has long been a fan of the show, cheering on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi when she appeared and tweeting back and forth with host and head judge RuPaul. She’s also been known to borrow a quotable line from a Drag Race contestant too when discussing politics.
But she’s also taken in drag shows that aren’t playing out on the small screen. At a drag and burlesque show in New York City in July, she cheering on contestants and told them they are “beautiful” and “accepted.”
This season of the show, which premieres Feb. 28 on VH1, features many guests in addition to AOC, including Nicki Minaj, Leslie Jones, Chaka Khan, Thandie Newton, Jeff Goldblum, Normani, Whoopi Goldberg, Robyn, Daisy Ridley, Olivia Munn, Rachel Bloom and Winnie Harlow.
