Alien Series on FX Wraps Filming, Releases 2025
There’s an Alien streaming series on the way, and it’s finished filming.
The prequel show, the first ever to take place in the Alien universe, will air on FX some time in 2025. It’s set 30 years prior to 1979’s Alien, and stars Timothy Olyphant, Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, and Dame Silvia. If you’re confused, here’s the Alien: Romulus timeline confirmed by director.
The series is directed by Noah Hawley, who also helped run the show on Fargo and Legion. Ridley Scott, the director of the 1979 film, joins him as writer and executive producer. Disney first announced the series in 2020, but finally, it’s letting the alien loose. So, what’s it about?
“It’s not a Ripley story,” Hawley told Vanity Fair in 2021, reference Sigourney Weaver‘s character Ellen Ripley. “The alien stories are always trapped. Trapped in a prison, trapped in a space ship. I thought it would be interesting to open it up a little bit so that the stakes of ‘What happens if you can’t contain it?’ are more immediate.”
We’ll also get more backstory involving shady company Weyland-Yutani as they compete with other corporations to develop technology that makes humans immortal. But at what cost? That’s what the show will explore.
