Allegan County Fair: Safety and Ludacris
ALLEGAN, Mich. (WOOD) — The Allegan County Fair opens for its 172nd year on Friday, and some big names will perform there.
Rapper Ludacris will perform at the fairgrounds on Friday at 7:30 p.m., attracting large crowds and questions from visitors.
Many fans are wondering if the fair has any protocols put in place to make sure the performers show up. This is after rapper Nelly failed to show up to the Allegan County Fair last year leaving fans waiting for more than two hours.

Saree Miller, the executive director for the county fair, said they work closely with the performer’s management teams to make sure everything is on schedule. She said they have been in constant communication with Ludacris’ team and she expects there will be no problems.
“Luda is very well know as being the guy who shows. He does an excellent job . People love him. People say he’s so friendly and lovely to work with and we are excited to have him here,” Miller said.
Tickets for Ludacris’ performance are still on sale here.
There are also other performers taking the stage at the fair, including Third Eye Blind and Of Mice and Men. Their concert is Saturday at 7 p.m.
The carnival is also back this year. It opens at 3 p.m. Friday. There are also animal shows, demo derbies and more. New this year is sandcastle expert Dan in the Sand. He will be at the fair, creating sand sculptures in the community area.
With all of the fun activities and large crowds, people are also wondering what security will look like at the fair. This concern comes after two teenagers were shot, one fatally, at the Michigan State Fair this past weekend.

Miller said they have always had heavy security at the fair, including metal detectors, dogs and their security team. They also work with the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office, which has deputies at the fair to make sure everyone has a safe and fun time.
“We’ve never had an incident here. The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office is great. We have a very large presence here, plus all our security,” Miller said. “We have dogs, we have walkthrough metal detectors. We really do our best to keep things safe.”
The fair opens Friday at 1 p.m. and every day after at 8 a.m. until Sept. 14. You can find more event details here.
