Alt rockers Cake play Des Moines this spring. Find out when tickets go on sale.
“He’s going the distance. He’s going for speed.”
If those lyrics take you back to Cake’s 1996 hit “The Distance,” you should mark May 11 on your calendar. The alternative rock band plays Lauridsen Amphitheater at Water Works Park, 2251 George Flagg Parkway in Des Moines, for the Field Days Music Series.
Cake describes itself as a mix between Sly Stone and Hank Williams Sr. at a party where they played AC/DC albums backward.
The band behind songs such as “The Distance,” “Love You Madly,” “Short Skirt/Long Jacket,” “Never There” and “I Will Survive” last played Des Moines for the 80/35 Music Festival in 2014.
The band releases their ninth album in 2024, along with a “Live from Folsom” album in June.
Tickets for the 8 p.m. show go on sale on Jan. 12 at 10 a.m. online.
