Aly Michalka Reveals Why She Didn't Initially Tell Her Sister AJ About Her Pregnancy: 'It Was Hard for Me'
Aly welcomed her son Jack Francis at home in April
Aly Michalka experienced one of the biggest moments of her musical career on the day she found out she was pregnant.
While reflecting on her pregnancy on an episode of the Informed Pregnancy Podcast with Dr. Elliot Berlin released on Thursday, June 27, the actress and musician, 35, told Dr. Berlin that she didn't tell her sister AJ Michalka that she was pregnant until a few days after she found out.
The duo, who perform together in the musical group Aly & AJ, had one of the biggest concerts of their careers on the day she found out at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, Calif. and she didn't want anything to distract her.

"I chose not to tell AJ because I really wanted her to be in the moment that evening," she explained. "It was hard for me to be in the moment in a way because I was thinking of that while I was on stage."
"I also was waiting on our show and what was going on that evening, so I didn't say anything to anybody," she continued.
Aly and her husband Stephen Ringer took AJ, 33, to dinner in L.A. a few days later to tell her the news, and AJ was very excited to be an aunt.
Thinking about the timing of when she found out she was going to be a mother, Aly said everything felt right.
"It was cool to find out in retrospect because that was such a big deal for us as a band to play that show and to be from L.A. and to have seen so many shows at the Greek," she said, adding that it felt "cool" to realize there was a baby with them on stage during one of the biggest nights of their lives.

Aly did the interview with Dr. Belin when she was 35 weeks pregnant. She welcomed son Jack Francis on Sunday, April 21, and exclusively told PEOPLE about her home birth.
"It was a very peaceful and calm birth, which is really what we were hoping for," she said, calling Jack, who was named after her late grandfather on her mom's side, "a great little guy."

As for why she chose to give birth at home in Santa Barbara, Calif., she said, "I do feel like our medical system intervenes in ways that can be really harmful for women and really traumatic for not only themselves, but for their baby. For me, it felt like a great way to be able to avoid that."
