Amanda Bynes Reveals Major Career Switch
The former actress has been done with Hollywood for years.
Amanda Bynes is on her way to becoming a professional manicurist.
According to E! News, the former actress, 36, announced via an Instagram Story on Friday, Oct. 7, that she is currently attending cosmetology school to pursue a whole new career path in the manicure industry.
"In cosmetology college to become a manicurist!" the former All That star reportedly wrote in her Instagram Story, which also featured a video of herself dressed in an all-black outfit with her hair in a ponytail while giving a tour of the salon-inspired classroom.
While it is unclear how far along Bynes is in the cosmetology school process, we know that she has been out of the acting industry for years after officially announcing her retirement from Hollywood back in 2010.
"Being an actress isn't as fun as it may seem," she wrote via Twitter at the time, as Parade previously reported.
"If I don't love something anymore, I stop doing it. I don't love acting anymore, so I've stopped doing it. I know 24 is a young age to retire, but you heard it here first."
She later came out of retirement briefly to star in the 2010 movie Easy A, although she hasn't appeared in a feature film since. She previously told Paper magazine she "couldn't stand" her appearance in Easy A, which she said convinced her that it was time to stop acting.
"I was high on marijuana when I saw that, but for some reason it really started to affect me," she said of her negative perception of the film. "I don't know if it was a drug-induced psychosis or what, but it affected my brain in a different way than it affects other people. It absolutely changed my perception of things."
In 2013, Bynes was placed under conservatorship due to substance abuse issues, an arrangement that wasn't terminated until March of this year.
Since then, the She's The Man alum has opened up about her plans for the future, including finishing her degree from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles, California.
"I am continuing with my Bachelor's Degree at FIDM, majoring in Creative Industry Studies with a core in Beauty Marketing and Product Development," she told E! News in April.
Bynes continued: "I am traveling to New York in June to work on developing a fragrance which will be ready to launch near the holidays."
She has also dabbled in the music industry, releasing two singles earlier this year: "Diamonds" and "Fairfax."
