Amanda Kloots opens up about therapy, grieving Nick Cordero ahead of 'The Talk' hosting gig

Six months after the death of her husband, Broadway star Nick Cordero, Amanda Kloots is "finally ready to go to therapy to address the trauma," she shared.

The Broadway actress turned celebrity fitness instructor, 38, chronicled Cordero's battle with COVID-19 this summer on her Instagram account, providing fans with daily updates on his condition and how she was processing the tragedy.

"I think everything I went through is catching up to me and I am finally ready to go to therapy to address the trauma," Kloots wrote on her Instagram story over the weekend, ahead of her Monday debut as a co-host of CBS's "The Talk."

Cordero, who earned a Tony Award nomination in 2014 for his role in "Bullets Over Broadway," was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles in late March for what was initially thought to be pneumonia. A first coronavirus test came up negative, though a subsequent test was positive for COVID-19.

Over the course of 13 weeks, Cordero faced a multitude of serious complications, including a leg amputation, infections in his lungs and the insertion of a temporary pacemaker.

Kloots announced July 5 that her husband had died that morning, "surrounded in love by his family, singing and praying as he gently left this earth."

Since then she has continued to be open about the grieving process, sharing social media updates while at home with her and Cordero's 1-year-old son, Elvis.

In her post on Sunday, Kloots opened up about struggling over the holidays, particularly New Year's because "when a new year comes you want a clean slate or to forget about last year... but I can't forget about last year and will not be able to wipe that slate clean."

Still, Kloots has been able to find some solace in sharing her mourning publicly, rather than trying to face it alone.

"I share all of this as my continued honesty about grief and loss," she added. "How it ebbs and flows, changes a lot. How it hides and then finds you. ... How you can cry some days for two seconds or for two hours. How it makes you feel so lonely and confused."

"I am thrilled and honored to join this incredible cast and crew," Kloots said in a statement last month. "I look forward to starting off the new year with honest and thought-provoking discussions, mixed with plenty of fun and laughter too."
