Amazon, home of Transparent, now invites you to explore the world of… classical music. Wait—don’t go! There is womanizing! Partying! Shouting! Sexy tattoos! Power plays! Other intrigue!
On Dec. 23, the streaming service will unveil 10 episodes of Mozart in the Jungle, a dramatic comedy that takes you behind the baton of the New York Symphony. Based on Blair Tindall’s memoir Mozart in the Jungle: Sex, Drugs & Classical Music, the show stars Gone Girl‘s Lola Kirke as a wide-eyed oboist named Hailey who is attempting to find her place in the orchestra, led by new conductor Rodrigo (Gael Garcia Bernal), “an enfant terrible whose passion for music threatens the plans of the orchestra’s old guard.” Representing that old guard is proud, outgoing conductor Thomas (Malcolm McDowell) and the symphony’s chairman of the board, Gloria (Bernadette Peters). The high-profile names extend behind the camera as well, as the show’s executive producers/writers include Roman Coppola, Jason Schwartzman, and Paul Weitz. Check out the trailer, exclusively on EW, and see if you can hear the hair.
