‘American Pie’ star Thomas Ian Nicholas discusses Comic Con, film’s 25th anniversary

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Nickel City Comic Con is this weekend at the Buffalo Convention Center, and as celebrity guests, comic creators and fans get ready, Thomas Ian Nicholas of “American Pie” fame joined WIVB “Wake Up!” Friday morning to talk about what people can expect from this year’s event, as well as a few other things he’ll be up to while in town.

With “American Pie” celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, Nicholas, along with costars Tara Reid, Shannon Elizabeth and Chris Owen will be appearing at Nickel City Comic Con.

“We all stay in touch, but when we get to do an event, then we get to hang out together,” he said. “It’s always nice to see my friends.”

Nicholas told Wake Up! anchor Jeff Preval what attendees can expect from the event.

“It’s a celebration of pop culture and, for comic book fans, there’s an Artist’s Alley always,” he said. “But then, if you like films like “American Pie” or you remember watching “Dukes of Hazzard” or “Trailer Park Boys,” and there’s a bunch of wrestlers that are there — it’s a pretty awesome time.”

The event marks not just Nicholas’ debut at Nickel City Comic Con, but also his first trip to Buffalo. In addition to Comic Con, Nicholas is also playing an “American Pie Emo Night” concert with his band, on a lineup with Rookie of the Year and blink-182 tribute band The Dude Ranch. That event kicks off at 7 p.m. at Riff City and will also include a screening of the film and a Q&A prior to the show.

The full interview with Nicholas can be seen in the video player at the top of this page. Tickets to Nickel City Comic Con are available at the door all three days.
