Hernandez’s ‘American Sports Story’ Is Nearly HereFX/Hulu - Hulu

Following the critically acclaimed American Crime Story: The People v. O. J. Simpson, Ryan Murphy explores the life of another celebrity athlete tried for murder: Aaron Hernandez. The FX limited series, titled American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez, dramatizes the struggles the New England Patriots tight end faced throughout his life as investigators attempt to piece together exactly why he murdered his friend Odin Lloyd.

Based on the podcast Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc. as well as reporting from The Boston Globe, the series plans to dive into Hernandez’s sexuality, history of family abuse, drug addiction, conviction, suicide, and posthumous CTE diagnosis. Josh Andrés Rivera (West Side Story) stars as Hernandez, with Patrick Schwarzenegger (yes, Arnold’s son) playing quarterback Tim Tebow.

American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez is the first of seven Ryan Murphy–created series premiering over the course of September and October, alongside Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, Grotesquerie, Doctor Odyssey, American Horror Stories season 4, and the latest seasons of both 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star.
