Who is Amy Grant?
Known for her singles like "Baby, Baby," "That's What Love Is For" and "Scars in Heaven," Grant was the first contemporary Christian music artist to have a platinum record, hit No. 1 on the Pop charts and perform at the Grammy Awards. Since then, Grant has made a successful career as a singer-songwriter, author, television host and speaker.
A native of Augusta, Georgia, Grant wrote and performed her first song, "Mountain Top," in 1976. While recording a demo tape with a local church youth-leader, producer Chris Christian overheard Grant's voice and made a call to World Records. Grant was offered a contract with the label only a few weeks before her 16th birthday. She recorded her first self-titled album in 1977.
Grant's breakout album is considered to be "Age to Age," released in 1982. For this album, she received her first Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Gospel Performance. "Age to Age" went on to become the first Christian album to be certified gold and platinum.
By the early '90s, Grant began to expand her horizons, with the goal to release more contemporary pop music, which she accomplished with her album "Heart in Motion" in 1991. Her single "Baby, Baby," which was featured on the album, hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. She also received Grammy nominations for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Record and Song of the Year.
Throughout her career, Grant has sold more than 30 million albums, according to the musician's bio on the Hammons Hall website. In total, she's received six Grammy Awards and 26 Dove Awards. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a star on the Music City Walk of Fame. Most recently, she was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in Nashville.
In 2005, Grant took on a new role as host of NBC's reality television series "Three Wishes." Two years later, she released her first book, "Mosaic: Pieces of My Life So Far." Today, Grant lives in Nashville with her family.
