Amy Grant recovering at home after bicycling accident, postpones August shows until 2023
Christian singer Amy Grant is recovering at home after being hospitalized in Nashville following a bicycling accident.
First responders transported the best-selling "Heart In Motion" singer to Vanderbilt Medical Center to treat her for cuts and abrasions after the accident and she stayed overnight Wednesday as a precaution, Grant's representative Velvet Kelm confirmed to USA TODAY.
Before the wreck, Grant was cycling near a golf course with a friend before she hit a pothole, according to her representative. She wore a bicycling helmet at the time of the accident.
"Doctors have ordered additional recovery time at home for Amy, where she is now resting comfortably," Kelm said in a statement Friday.
Due to Grant's injuries, the singer has postponed several shows she had scheduled for August, including several shows in Tennessee. Kelm said those shows have been rescheduled for 2023.
'Take care of yourself': Amy Grant shares health update after heart surgery
Days ago, Grant joined the class of 2022 Kennedy Center Honorees, a recognition considered one of the highest in American entertainment.
The bicycle accident comes two years after Grant faced a health scare, receiving open-heart surgery to fix a birth defect.
Grant revealed in February 2020 she was diagnosed with a heart condition called partial anomalous pulmonary venous return, and underwent surgery in June.
Eight months after her surgery, Grant shared a health update in an interview with "Good Morning America."
"I feel fantastic. I just have this feeling like this is going to be the best year yet. I love it," Grant said.
The singer unknowingly lived with the heart condition since birth, but was diagnosed after her doctor insisted Grant get a check-up while accompanying husband Vince Gill on a doctor's visit.
"My birth defect was an encroaching killer and I had no idea," Grant said. "My advice would be to take care of yourself, the world needs you."
