Amy Schumer, and 7 other celebrities who secretly got married
News that Amy Schumer has tied the knot with chef Chris Fischer — to whom she had only days earlier posted about on social media for the first time — was unexpected. Mostly because, in the world of celebrity, there’s long been an unofficial way these things are done: the couple confirms they are dating, then confirms their engagement (making sure to offer all the sweet, often glitzy details), waxes about wedding plans for months, and, finally, has a carefully photographed wedding ceremony.
Schumer chose a different path — fans didn’t even know she was engaged! — and she’s not the only one. Here are seven other couples who kept their weddings quiet until after the fact in the past few years.
Jordin Sparks and Dana Isaiah
Just three months ago, Sparks dropped the news that she and her boyfriend since April had secretly married in July, while on vacation in Hawaii. Not only that, but she revealed at the same time that they’re expecting a little one. “I’m extremely grateful because life is nuts,” the singer told People. “This is the best part so far because I have [Dana] and I have this little one and I have a new family. I’m the most content I’ve ever been in my life.”
Ellen Page and Emma Portner
Page dropped the news she had wed dancer Emma Portner on Instagram last month, with some beautiful photos of the two. While there hadn’t been any news of an engagement beforehand, the Juno star was clearly elated. “Can’t believe I get to call this extraordinary woman my wife,” she wrote. The two had been seen together for the first time in July 2017.

Zoe Saldana and Marco Perego
Saldana was first photographed coupled up with artist Perego in the spring, and by September — boom! — she was married. The two had been seen wearing gold bands earlier the same month, but it’s always tough to tell exactly what a ring means. Cut to December, when Saldana finally confirmed that she had swapped vows with Perego in England six months before.
Tyrese Gibson and Samantha Lee
The Fast and Furious actor casually dropped the news that he‘s a husband in an Instagram video shared in late February 2017. He and the woman, only later identified as Samantha Lee, had married on Valentine’s Day. They had only been photographed together for the first time two months earlier. He quoted a Bible verse in the message: “Mark 10:8 And the two will become #OneFlesh Mr & Mrs Gibson.”

Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerley
Here’s what we do know: Robbie and I, Tonya producer Ackerley are husband and wife. Other details are murkier. While it was reported in December 2016 that Robbie had wed that month in her native Australia, Page Six later reported that the Suicide Squad actress had been overheard telling someone that she had actually been married for three years. She hasn’t said exactly.

Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy
The famously private actress-turned-designer wed Sarkozy, her 17-years-older beau, in late November 2015, after three years of dating. Although there were reports about an engagement — again, it was a ring that made people wonder — it was Olsen’s Full House dad Bob Saget who confirmed the news to Today, when he was asked if he was invited. No, he said, but he’d sent a text.
Jodie Foster and Alexandra Hedison
At the 2013 Golden Globes, the very private director/actress made headlines for speaking about her personal life, including her sexuality, while accepting an award. But by April 2014, she was married, and her rep confirmed it. Foster and her photographer love began dating the summer after her speech. She soon returned to keeping her private life private, explaining to The Telegraph in 2016, that she had “developed some healthy survival skills,” presumably including keeping her personal life out of the spotlight, in her four decades in show business.
