Andy Samberg: ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Cast Texted Terry Crews After Senate Testimony

As Terry Crews continues to speak out about male sexual harassment in Hollywood, his “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” co-star Andy Samberg says that the cast of the hit comedy series has been behind him every step of the way.

“We have a cast text chain and we were all texting him how incredible it was,” Samberg told the Associated Press during a promo tour for his next film, “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation.”

“He’s a miracle. Terry’s the best guy,” Samberg said. “I am proud to know him.”

Crews testified Tuesday as part of a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing to review the implementation of the Sexual Assault Survivors’ Bill of Rights, which was installed two years ago and adds new rights for sexual abuse victims in federal law.

During his testimony, Crews discussed his widely-publicized sexual harassment allegations against William Morris Endeavor agent Adam Venit, who Crews said groped him during a party in Hollywood. Crews filed a civil suit against WME and Venit after the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office declined to prosecute Venit, citing statute of limitations. The “B99” actor said that until the rise of the #MeToo movement, he didn’t speak out about the incident because he was afraid he would be “laughed out of the police station.”

“What happened to me has happened to many many other men in Hollywood, and since I came forward with my story I have had thousands and thousands of men come to me and say ‘Me too, this is my story. But I did not have the confidence, or I did not feel safe enough, to come out,'” Crews said. “Because what happens is you get blacklisted, your career is in danger — after that, no one wants to work with you.”

Along with the “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” crew, Crews has also received support from actress and sexual harassment activist Rose McGowan, who noted that abuse in Hollywood isn’t just a problem for women.

“Assault happens to boys and Men too,” McGowan said in a tweet to Crews. “You are brave, you are good, you are strong. I’m so pleased that [Samberg] is in your corner. We all should be! Much love, Rose.”
