Angelina Jolie and Daughter Zahara Favor Golden Age Glitz for ‘Maria’ Red Carpet at New York Film Festival 2024 With Pax and Maddox
Angelina Jolie embraced Old Hollywood glamor on Sunday for the premiere of “Maria,” her latest film, during the 62nd New York Film Festival.
Held in the Alice Tully Hall, Jolie was elegant in a long white vintage gown by Madame Grès, which she styled with scarlet peep-toe pumps. Finishing her look with a slash of rouge on her lip and nails, the actress bore a striking resemblance to Marilyn Monroe in “Seven Year Itch.”

The dress also recalled her 2004 Oscars look, where she wore a white satin Marc Bouwer gown.
Madame Alix Grés was one of Paris’s most-celebrated couturiers. The designer was known for her draped monochromatic evening gowns, clientele including Grace Kelly and Jacqueline Kennedy. In a 1977 interview with WWD, Callas said: “People say there is a new energy in the couture these days, but I really don’t know. I feel that the energy has always been there. Young people today are interested in and appreciate quality. I see it in my young clients. People realize that couture is truth – couture is inspirational. The couture goes beyond the frontiers of the house that it is designed in. The couture influences everything. The couture,” she added quietly, “is my life.”
Jolie previously channeled Golden Age glitz at the red carpet premiere of “Maria” during the 2024 Venice Film Festival. There, she opted for a custom Tamara Ralph ensemble consisting of a taupe asymmetrical draped chiffon gown and a faux fur stole. She accessorized with a bold red lip and gold brooch.
While Jolie’s always had a penchant for red lipstick, the lacquer’s taken on new significance in light of her appointment as Tom Ford Beauty’s first celebrity spokesmodel, WWD exclusively revealed last August.
In campaign imagery, Jolie modeled the brand’s hero Runway Lip Color shade, Scarlet Rouge. “It’s a beautiful color and texture,” the actress told WWD via email. “A good red lip needs little else. It’s worn with intention. That was part of the discussion.”
Jolie’s been spotted on a spree of promotional outings for “Maria.” On Sept. 3, she stayed cozy in a cashmere Brunello Cucinelli ensemble for a screening of her film during the Telluride Film Festival.
After directing dramas about Jackie Kennedy and Princess Diana, Pablo Larraín’s latest film, “Maria,” follows another famous woman from history: Maria Callas. Jolie portrays the legendary soprano during the final years of her life in 1970s Paris.
