Angelina Jolie Ditched Her Signature Look for a Dramatic Hair Transformation at AFI Fest Red Carpet
When Angelina Jolie steps on a red carpet, she usually sticks to her signature look. A sleek, straight blowout that allows her hair to cascade down her shoulders. Sometimes she will opt for an updo for a very formal event, but the 49-year-old actress usually sticks to her classic style — that is until her award show campaign for Maria.
Jolie is working hard to get that Golden Globe and Oscar nomination for her turn as opera singer Maria Callas, and that means bumping up the red carpet looks for the next few months. On Saturday, Oct. 26, she showed up to the 2024 AFI Fest with a look we haven’t seen her sport in ages on the red carpet — it was a dramatic hair transformation. Her straight hair was tossed out the window for gorgeous curls which added a lot of personality to her red carpet appearance. The look was styled by hairstylist Renato Campora, according to Glamour.

She wore a bronze satin gown with a chocolate-brown wrap, which mirrored Callas’ way of dressing. Instead of the opera singer’s tight bun, Jolie styled her hair in glamorous curls paired with a bold red lip. It gave her a bright, bouncy look, and judging from the snapshots from the red carpet, Jolie loved it too. She was smiling and downright joyful as she posed for photographers. We wouldn’t be surprised if Jolie ushered in a wave of ’80s nostalgia for award show season — she is quite the trendsetter!
Jolie’s curly hair does seem to be making a comeback because her recent cover story for CR Fashion Book also showed off her waves. It’s The Eternals star’s way of showing off different sides of her personality, something she took very seriously in her portrayal of Callas in the film. She shared that sentiment with People at the AFI Fest this weekend.
“I know there are certain things that people would assume from the distance that we have in common, but I think what we have in common maybe is that we share a certain loneliness in kind of sometimes doing our work where we’re the one, I don’t know, up at night, alone, trying to figure something out,” she told the media outlet. “I don’t want to speak too much about it because it’s too personal, but there’s definitely a loneliness and a work ethic.”
With a full season of red carpets ahead, Jolie is stepping up her signature style!
