Angelina Jolie's Early Venice Film Festival Exit Is Reportedly All Because of Brad Pitt
As many of Hollywood’s best-known stars flock to Italy for the ongoing Venice Film Festival, Angelina Jolie will reportedly exit the event early to avoid crossing paths with ex-husband Brad Pitt.
On August 29, Jolie celebrated the premiere of her new movie, Maria, in which she portrays famed opera singer Maria Callas during the tragic final week of her life. Pitt, meanwhile, will be in the Italian city to premiere his new movie, Wolfs, which stars longtime friend George Clooney.

While many stars are already enjoying the festivities, attending Jolie’s premiere and several others, Pitt has not yet arrived in the Italian city and it seems that is no coincidence.
In an August 15 interview, Venice Film Festival’s artistic director Alberto Barbera told Vanity Fair that Jolie would be leaving the festival before it ends, thus missing a run-in with her ex.
“Yes, of course. Angelina will be on the first day, on Thursday the 29, and she will leave right after with [Maria director] Pablo Larraín to go to Telluride,” Barbera said. “So Brad will arrive only on Saturday, to Venice. There is no way that they can cross each other at the Lido.”
The lack of scheduling conflict will no doubt be a relief for the actress who has publicly accused her ex-husband of physically assaulting her during a 2016 private plane flight shortly before she filed for divorce. In an April filing in their ongoing legal battle over the French winery they once shared, Jolie’s legal team claimed that Pitt had a “history of physical abuse of Jolie” before the plane ride.
Pitt and Jolie married in 2014 after nine years together. They were declared legally single in 2019.
