Angelina Jolie's Legal Fight Against Brad Pitt Just Took Another Serious Turn
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s legal fight is far from over as the 48-year-old actress filed new court documents that allege her ex-husband was abusive long before the Sept. 14, 2016, plane incident. The latest allegations come as a part of their ongoing legal fight over Chateau Miraval, the French winery they formerly owned together.
Jolie’s legal team wants the judge to release documents that indicate Pitt wanted to control the sale of her shares of Chateau Miraval by trying to coerce her to sign a “more onerous” and “expansive” NDA, according to the court papers obtained by People. That’s where the details about Pitt’s alleged physical abuse are revealed. “While Pitt’s history of physical abuse of Jolie started well before the family’s September 2016 plane trip from France to Los Angeles, this flight marked the first time he turned his physical abuse on the children as well,” her lawyers wrote. “Jolie then immediately left him.”

Pitt has never been charged with a crime from the 2016 incident by the U.S. attorney’s office or the L.A. County Department of Child and Family Services, but it is clear that the atmosphere is contentious between the two exes. In addition to the physical abuse claims, Jolie’s attorney Paul Murphy accused Pitt of his “unrelenting efforts to control and financially drain” and attempt “to hide his history of abuse, control, and coverup,” per The Los Angeles Times. A source close to the 60-year-old actor has a contrasting viewpoint of the situation, though.
“This is a pattern of behavior — whenever there is a decision that goes against the other side, they consistently choose to introduce misleading, inaccurate, and/or irrelevant information as a distraction,” they told People. However, Jolie has doubled down on her abuse allegations against Pitt in a 2022 FBI Freedom of Information Act lawsuit because she wants to know why the federal agency sought to file criminal charges against her ex, but suddenly backed off.
Jolie never personally pressed charges against Pitt either, and her legal team says it was because “she believed the best course was for Pitt to accept responsibility and help the family recover from the post-traumatic stress he caused.” It’s a case that the former duo apparently wants to fight until the bitter end because the legal battle doesn’t have an end date almost eight years later.
