Maude Apatow, Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, and More Pay Tribute to Angus Cloud: ‘Too Young to Leave Us So Soon’
Angus Cloud, who played the soft-spoken and beloved character Fezco on Euphoria, died on Monday at the age of 25.
The Oakland native, who had never acted before the hit show, was scouted for the series while walking down a street in Brooklyn. “[The] first time I watched myself on TV I didn’t like it,” he told Rolling Stone in 2021. “I’m like, ‘What the fuck, I suck at this. Why did they pay me to do that?’” But fans disagreed, and fell in love with his portrayal of a drug dealer with a heart of gold, as Cloud took the teen drama trope and brought profound depth to the role — creating a character whose gentle nature simmered with a fierce loyalty that could erupt into ruthless rage to protect those around him.

While Cloud’s family did not specify the cause, they said he had “intensely struggled” with the recent death of his father. “Angus was open about his battle with mental health, and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence,” his family said in a statement.
Following the announcement of his death, costars and friends shared tributes and personal memories of Cloud.
“Angus was the funniest person ever. I would get so excited to see on the schedule that we would be working together because I knew we’d have the best day, laughing so hard,” Maude Apatow, who acted opposite Cloud as Lexi Howard on Euphoria, shared in a tribute post on Instagram. “He was the sweetest and made everyone around him so happy. He was just the best. Words can’t really capture how magical of a person he was. My heart is broken.”
Beneath photos captured at dinners and on set, she wrote: “Angus, getting to know and work with you was one of the greatest joys and blessings of my life. I will love you forever.”
Sydney Sweeney, who plays Cassie Howard on the series, posted a carousel of images with Cloud to Instagram, almost all of which captured the actor with a wide smile on his face. “Angus you were an open soul, with the kindest heart, and you filled every room with laughter. This is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to post, and I’m struggling to find all the words,” she wrote in her caption.
“You will be missed more than you know, but I’m so blessed to have known you in this lifetime, and I’m sure everyone who has ever met you feels the same,” she continued. “This heartache is real and I wish we could’ve had one more hug and 711 run. All my love is with you.”
Hunter Schafer wrote on Instagram, “Angus was a sunshine. to have known his warmth, his light, and his love was nothing short of a gift. i’m so grateful to have shared so many enormous fits of laughter, so many sweet moments, and the joy of getting to make something together that we loved so much. I love you angus. Thank you for everything. My heart goes out to his family and all of his loved ones right now.”
Euphoria creator Sam Levinson shared a statement with The Hollywood Reporter, writing, “There was no one quite like Angus. He was too special, too talented and way too young to leave us so soon. He also struggled, like many of us, with addiction and depression. I hope he knew how many hearts he touched. I loved him. I always will. Rest in peace and God Bless his family.”
In an Instagram Story featuring a photo of Cloud, Euphoria‘s executive producer Drake wrote, “Good soul ?????.”

Singer-songwriter Kehlani, who is also from Oakland, touched on Cloud’s impact on the bay area community. “u fucked the whole world up, but you really fucked everybody at home up. it’s a deep one,” Kehlani posted on Monday night, adding “not too many words when it’s this close to home. not many words when it’s a bigger conversation. i ain’t got much more to say except the real person was more complex & more solid than a tv character. that person deserve to be remembered in totality.”
In an Instagram Story, the singer Becky G echoed this point about Cloud’s impact on his hometown. “Angus, I’ll never forget talking about what it meant to be some Cali kids doing it big,” she wrote. “You really didn’t care about the flashy lights or fancy events. Your rawness and authenticity were my favorite things about being around you. Truly at a loss for words… My thoughts and prayers go out to family and friends close to you during this difficult time.”
Javon Walton, who portrays Ashtray — Fezco’s unofficially adopted brother, took to social media on Monday to share a photo of the pair embracing with the caption, “rest easy brother.”
Jennifer Venditti, the casting director who scouted Cloud, said he would make “everyone feel like your sister or brother, always wishing everyone LOVE.” In a heartfelt post, she recalled his first audition, a scene with a long monologue with Rue (played by Zendaya). “You didn’t need to speak, your eyes said it all. Your kind heart, the life you had lived and the sensitivity of your soul understood it all,” wrote Venditti. “Never changing for anyone. Treating everyone as an equal. You were one of a kind! May your spirit soar in all of us.”
