Anna Faris Says Her Return To ‘Scary Movie’ Franchise Is Contingent Upon Regina Hall
Anna Faris is ready to return to the Scary Movie franchise under one condition—if Regina Hall returns as well.
Faris starred in four installments of the infamous satirical parody as Cindy Campbell and back in April, Paramount revealed that a reboot was in the works.
Aside from money, Faris told PEOPLE that she “would love to reprise” if it meant she could star alongside Hall’s character, Brenda, again.
“I would love to work with Regina again. I just love her so much,” she gushed. “We would make each other giggle all day long. Regina Hall would be my answer [regarding a reprise]. And money. But mostly all Regina!”
Faris credited the spoof franchise as the films where she hones her comedic skills. “I love that franchise. It was like my bootcamp, my beginnings,” she shared, noting, “If there is a high school comparison for my growth experience, those four movies played an important role in my life in terms of teaching me how to use props, teaching me how to fall, how to get hit in the head — how to hold Chiclets in my mouth and then spit them out with blood at a convenient time for the camera.”
Hall expressed interest in reprising her beloved Scary Movie character back in 2022. She told Entertainment Tonight, “We should’ve had [a reunion], but we can’t have a 20 year reunion cause they’re too off for that. It’s gotta be like 23-year [reunion.] Like, who would have a 23 year [reunion]? [But] I would love to see where they are now. I don’t think it’s any place amazing, but I think it’d be fun to see.”
Back then, Faris also discussed reprising her role and expressed to the outlet, “I bet with the right paycheck, Regina would be in, too.”
When speaking on her love of Brenda with Fast Company, Hall recalled advice received by Keenan Ivory Wayans. “Keenan used to always say ‘there’s no vanity in comedy,’ so I always realized whatever it is, just be honest. With him, I had a lot more trust in myself […] He really allowed and encouraged a lot of improv. It was a real self-discovery and opportunity to trust my instincts,” said the Girls Trip star.
Though she was advised to not do Scary Movie, accepting the role was a no-brainer. “That would’ve been bad if I’d said no,” Hall teased.
