Anna Kendrick Seated at 'Table 19' (for the Outcast Wedding Guests) in New Comedy Trailer
The only thing worse than going to a wedding you really don’t want to attend is to go anyway and find you’re in the reception hall equivalent of Siberia — a situation that serves as the uncomfortable premise for a new romantic-comedy starring Anna Kendrick that’s just debuted its first trailer (watch it above).

In Table 19, Kendrick’s Eloise decides (against her better judgment) to attend the nuptials of a man whose brother (Wyatt Russell) unceremoniously dumped her. Her arrival results in encounters marked by wholesale awkwardness, and that mood is compounded when she’s seated at a back-of-the-room table with other guests (including Lisa Kudrow, June Squibb, Craig Robinson, and Stephen Merchant) who, they all quickly realize, are the least wanted attendees at the festivities. Their sad-sack fate drives some mopey comedy, although as evidenced by Eloise’s meet-cute with a hunk, it may just also be the basis for an eventual heartwarming new start.

Written by Jay and Mark Duplass (Cyrus, HBO’s Togetherness), and directed by Jeffrey Blitz (best known for his 2002 documentary Spellbound, as well as helming episodes of The Office and Parks and Recreation), the film — full of unhappy people banding together to find hope and inspiration through hijinks and dancing — seems to be cut from a Little Miss Sunshine cloth. Whether that’s a good thing or not will depend on your tolerance for that popular 2006 indie. Nonetheless, Table 19 will deliver some matrimonially themed romantic comedy when it premieres in theaters on Jan. 20, 2017.
